We have really hard water and if I don't use the regular amt of detergent our dipes have been known to get a bit gamey. I do a cold rinse w/no detergent, then a cold wash (full scoop tide, go through all cycles) Then a hot wash (full scoop tide, all cycles) then an extra rinse. We have no bubbles in final rinse and dipes come out smelling GREAT! I also line dry as often as I possibly can, HTH.
