Hi Jennifer,
I personally wouldn't worry about it. I do this on a regular basis (have for well over a year) and have never had any problems. As far as I know, washers are actually made to have water sitting for long periods. Many actually have super long soak cycles and you often hear people recomending you let things soak for a while before washing. You'd also think that just the fact that they're designed to be in such constant contact with water means that the interior wouldn't rust or anything. If it would, the constant wet-humid-dry cycle would surely lead to eventual problems even without soaking.
I'm no expert though so if you're still concerned I would call your washer's manufacturer and just ask about semi long-term soaking...
Karen.
