Well, you never know if it could be the Oxy-Clean.... It probably wouldn't have done anything really obvious at first but it could have weakened the fibers to the point where they wore down faster. It does kind of make sense that wear would first show up in the sides (though it should be all over soon enough) because that's where there is most stress on the fabric because of the stiching...
You're right though, Chinese prefolds are supposed to be the best quality out there. I know lots of people that have used some for several babies with no problems....Hmmm, very strange indeed.... I don't know, even with the Oxy-Clean thing you wouldn't think it would have made that huge a difference but who knows.
