Some advice that I liked, that I read somewhere, not sure where, is to start with a dry pail, because it's easier, and if you have problems switch to a wet pail. I use a dry pail for peed on diapers: it's actually the Safety 1st rip off of the diaper genie (the one that uses regular tall kitchen garbage bags). I find it easy to use and it holds about 20 diapers. I just toss some baking soda in it to keep down the odour, and wash about every 2 days.
For the truly dirty diapers, anything solid gets dumped in the toilet, then the diaper (gingerly held with kitchen tongs and scraped at with a long handled scrub brush -- I like staying clean) gets rinsed off in my laundry sink (you know, the big boxy kind), and put in a rubbermaid bin full of water right in my laundry sink. Once or twice a day when I'm wandering by, I dump out the rubbermaid tub and refill it with fresh water. I keep a small bucket at the changing table to put the dirty diapers in until I can take them to my laundry room.
