I have never used just the Sandy's alone for my kids. I do tend to have heavy wetters though, but I would think you'd have to have an awfully light wetter to be able to get away with no liners for an entire night.
We use a Toddle-Ease with one hemp liner and one really cheap cotton liner and we're good. Sometimes the sides of the diaper are even still dry in the morning (but not always so I wouldn't chance taking the liners out just yet). There was a time when I actually had to use *two* diapers on him (he used to nurse a lot at night...).
If no liners works for you though, then that's great. I don't think it would harm him in any way, though using fleece or stay-dry liners wouldn't be a bad idea (if you aren't already). Adding a liner might make the diaper feel less saturated and might make you feel more comfortable with it though...
