When I got my unbleached OS dipes they took SEVEN hot washes with detergent to break in, and a couple more weeks after that to reach full working capacity. I thought maybe it was just my older washing machine. Then my friend, who has a new washer, just ordered a set for her baby and it took her FIVE washes just to get them to the point where they absorb well.
What's the deal with that? On the info that comes with the diapers it says to wash them once (if I remember correctly) but then people expect them to work well right away. Has anyone else had the same experience with having to wash them many, many times?
I often see on diapering forums that people complain that ME dipes are not very absorbent compared to their other dipes. I often hear that the person used them once or twice and then sold them because they were not working well. I just wonder if they did not give the dipes a chance to break in properly, because our ME dipes worked well day and night. They worked better than premium prefolds for my dd with the liner in place. I always thought my dd was just a light wetter but when she started potty training I saw just how much those dipes were actually holding and was impressed!
