Hi Kathleen,

Stripping diapers is usually done when someone is having odor problems with their diapers. It involves 'stripping' the diapers of the build-up that is causing the odors. It is usually a detergent build-up that is causing the odors. If you use too much detergent and don't rinse it out properly then it can build-up and react with urine to produce some pretty nasty odors. There are different methods to stripping but they usually involve washing your 'clean' diapers a few times in very hot water (some even pour boiling water into their washer to up the temp of the water), very little to no detergent, baking soda and sometimes vinegar. If the problem is a detergent build-up then you'll want to watch the rinses to make sure there are no suds left. To prevent future problems you'll want to reduce the amount of detergent you use (you'd be amazed just how little you need, most of us use less than half the 'recomended' amount) and/or add an extra rinse or two. Watch the final rinse for suds to know if you've got the right amount of detergent or rinses.

Karen.
