Hi Nina,
I have used several types of Nikky covers in my cloth diapering days. I would not recomend them with ANY diaper and definetly not with Sandy's. You are right that they are not a good style to fit with this type of diaper. They are too narrow on the hips and wouldn't cover the diaper completly. This wouldn't be a huge issue during the day but a big problem at night.
I wouldn't recomend them in general either. I bought several brand new cotton Nikkys and they didn't even last a year before they lost their waterproofness. I have since found out that cotton covers such as this are infamous for not lasting. As you know, cotton is not waterproof, so covers like this have to be treated with a coating to make them waterproof. This coating only lasts so long before it just plain wears out. They're very expensive for something that won't last very long.
The wool Nikky's aren't so bad, I found they worked well. Just one warning though, they are made VERY VERY small. Both my children (average sized, no particularly large bums or tighs) were into the largest size before they were 12-18 months!!!
I would highly recomend the Aristocrats cover. It's fabulous, especially for nighttime. A little more work than PUL covers or even felted wool covers but worth it in my opinion.
For daytime though I would recomend a felted wool cover (the Nikkys are felted). They are easier to wash, a smidge trimmer (though wool covers are pretty bulky). Snaps or velcro also mean they're easier to put on and off. Messy poops that leak into the cover won't need to be pulled down baby's legs.
I haven't tried the Stacinator covers but have heard good things about them. I have tried the Biobottoms which are supposed to be almost identical to the Imse Vimse. I liked them also.
My favorite by far though have to be the Sugar-Peas wool covers! They are fabulous! They're available in different weights (so you can get trimmer ones for daytime), have snaps (so no velcro to irratate baby's skin or get caught on things in the wash). They're easy to wash, I used to just wash mine with my regular laundry (though never in hot water or in the dryer of course)!! They're also the most flexible for sizing I've ever seen, with very long tabs to make them very adjustable. Also made by wahms, which is nice to support. http://sugarpeas.wahmart.com/store/Default.asp
Good luck, hope this helps,
Karen.
