Hi everyone -
I am new to this cloth diapering thing. Our baby will be born in April 2004 and I would like to spend the next coming months sewing up a nice supply of diapers and covers. I have read a lot of websites and learned alot, but I am still confused. Are prefolds inserted into a velcro diaper cover the best place to start? My mother thinks I should use velcro contour diapers with plastic pants. I don't really like the idea of plastic pants b/c they don't sound breathable. If I make my own prefolds, should I make the inner absorbent layer out of terry cloth or would polar fleece be a better idea? Then I come to the diaper covers. Is fold-over elastic the best way to get a good "seal"? I don't have a supplier of PUL where I live, but would ripstop nylon work? I have seen a few websites that suggest using polar fleece for the diaper covers. Do I put it on the inside or the outside?
As you can see I have alot of questions. I have a sewing machine and serger so I feel that I am fully prepared in that department to tackle this project. Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing all your tips and hints!
