You can try some vinegar in one of the rinse cycles, it apparently helps dissolve detergent better than plain water. Just be sure to rinse the vinegar out really well so it's not still in your diapers (that could maybe aggravate things. You could also try one super hot wash by adding boiling water to you first cycle (from a large pot for instance) or by temporarily turning up the hot water heater.
I would try a enzymatic type cleaner before any kind of bleach. You can get some made especially for children's clothes called Mother's Little Miracle (don't know where, I got mine from a store that's now closed). I've heard that the stuff they sell in pet stores to clean pet messes is basically the same. I would also try Oxy-Clean before I would try chlorine bleach. It's worked for some people and is much less harsh than bleach. Be warned though that it's still to be used with caution, it's reputed to 'eat holes' in hemp (don't know if that's after repeated washing or what, just repeating what I've heard).
