The problem with Desitin is that it contains fish oils that are hard to remove (not impossible but difficult) and can potentially cause some nasty fish odors. But even Desitin is 'safe' in that it won't permanently harm your diapers, it's just that the build-up is very unpleasant and can be difficult to remove.
: If you're ever concerned about a cream or ointment getting into your diapers you can always just use a liner of some kind under baby's bum. It can be a cheap cotton liner that you don't care if it gets stained or whatever. Could also be fleece or disposable.
