First of all...congratulations on your little one!! You are right that prefolds are cheaper. However, they come in four sizes and you do need to buy the different sizes for different stages. There are preemie, Infant, premium and toddler size prefolds. The only prefolds that I know of that are one size are the gerber ones you buy at Wal-Mart. If you buy Wal-Mart prefolds I assure you that you will not be pleased with your decision to cloth diaper!! They are cheap matierals and do not absorb very much at all. If you are planning on breastfeeding I would definately buy some fitteds (like small Sandy's or the Motherease one size diapers). Prefolds are economical, but there is nothing more frustrating than breast fed baby poop all over your diaper cover at every diaper change. The elastic in the legs of fitted diapers helps to control the messes. My DD is 14 months and I now use a combo of fitteds with covers and prefolds. Since her poop is more solid now we don't have messy covers any more. So, I hope I have not confused you even more. I would buy fitteds and covers for the beginning stages because it is easier and less mess. If you have the money I would highly reccomend the One size diapers in the 24 package and you will be set until potty training. Also, you could keep your eyes open here for a good deal on some used dipes. Almost my whole stash is used and I got great deals!! If you want to go the prefold route I would highly suggest checking out the deals that Granitsmith has on e-bay. She is very nice to deal with and has good prices. The Indian cotton prefolds are super soft and absorbant. My only suggestion is to fully research your purchases and maybe but one or two of each and try them out on a doll before you make a huge purchase. Buy some prefolds and practice first to see if you think you are going to like them. Now I am rambling...congrats and best if luck with your baby!!
Hi! I'm pregnant with our first child, due in
April. I want to use cloth diapers but there are so many options and I'm really confused! After much research, the Motherease All-in-one brand seems the way to go, because the inner diaper is adjustable for all ages. But I still have a couple of questions...
: What I don't understand is, why the need for an adjustable inner diaper? Pre-folds are cheaper, they come in one size only, and you don't need to adjust them to fit.
: I registered for a Diaper Champ (diaper pail) because it is made to keep out odors, but everyone says those are only for disposables. Is this true? If so, what do I use? I don't want the house to be smelly. :P
: Thanks for all your advice--
