I think they work best with prefolds. Because they are velcro you can just lay the prefold in the wrap, snug it up as tight as it needs to be and voila! You're done.
I know people have issues with keeping breastfeed baby poop contained if the prefolds are not pinned/snappi'd. But the Rikki's fit great over them, pinned or not.
