I use a combination of Luna-Pads (www.bareware.com and probably other places, but that's where I got mine) and the Keeper. The Keeper is great! It's a natural rubber cup that you insert just like a tampon and it catches menstrual fluid. I was really hesitant at first, scared it wouldn't work or wouldn't be comfortable.
I finally took the pludge when I read about the unconditional money-back guarantee (I even emailed the online store I got it from to check that it really was unconditional). I LOVE IT!!! I wear it all day and never even know I'm having my period! I use the Luna-Pads as a backup (I occasionally have little drops that leak out, but that's not the product because I had the same issues with tampons, it's just my body I guess) and for very light days. I could wear the Keeper even for light days but I prefer using the pads then.
Since my pads are never very soiled I just put them in a laundry bag (you know, the type with holes in them that you use to wash delicates in the washer) and wash them with my whites. I have no odors and *very* minimal staining (I recomend getting dark colored ones to hide stains, mine are red and purple and hardly show them at all).
I love using this system and would never go back to disposable pads, EVER! I don't even know that I'm having my period that's how great this works! I haven't bought a disposable pad or tampon in almost two years and I even still have some leftovers sitting in my bathroom drawer! I really can't say enough about The Keeper and the cloth pads. I really don't feel that I'm making ANY kind of sacrifice for the environment's sake, in fact I feel this is actually easier than what I was doing before.
Karen.
