I agree with Karen about it being only somewhat messy. I don't think it's any messier than the mess that comes with your period! I usually empty it twice a day (more if it's really heavy), and rinse it, then insert it again.

I also agree that it takes a little practice to get used to inserting it. It becomes a breeze pretty quickly, and it's much more comfortable than tampons once it's in.

It doesn't require any special sanitizing. I wash it with regular soap and allow it to air dry (an old toothbrush is a great idea - it has ridges and a few small holes that could use that kind of cleaning). Don't boil it - although I read once that you can soak it in water with a bit of vinegar once in a while (I did that for the first time last night, and it's fine)

: Nope. I just rinse it out when I empty it and then when I'm done using it I clean it with regular soap and an old tootbrush, rinse it well and let it air-dry. I'm not sure, but I think they actually recomend against things like boiling because it can ruin the rubber.
