Try not storing dirty covers with your dirty diapers. If my covers are just wet, I put them in an open basket to air out until wash time. If they have bm on them, I wash them in the sink with an old toothbrush asap. I don't wash my covers with my diapers either, I wash them with clothes or with each other, or just handwash them in the sink.
I could probably get by with 4 airflows, if I just used ME diapers, if I washed the dirty ones frequently. I would be a lot happier with eight. It really depends on how often you like a fresh cover. (I'm not going to admit how many covers I actually own.) :)
