Sounds like detergent build up to me. I have a front loader as well and use tsp-tbsp. I am in definite trouble when I'm "not thinking" when I'm pouring it in!! When I had this a few months back, it took several rinses to get them clean.
I also use a tip from down on the board about using a squirt of Dawn. I think it was to help with super absorbent material like hemp (which I use hemp doublers) but I'm not sure on that. And I put in a couple drop of tea tree oil too.
I never have problems anymore unless I'm not paying attention when I'm pouring the detergent in :o) and I'm too lazy to keep rinsing.
