If I remember correctly I did a little of both directly on the diaper and in the wash. I don't remember pre-soaking anything though. I basically followed the directions on the bottle. This was a good while back so I'm a little fuzzy on the details. I remember that the problem was with a few diapers in particular that I used for nighttime exclusively and I remember that I squirted those directly. I think I also put some in the wash afterwards but I'm not 100% sure.
