One thing to consider about review boards like Diaper Pin's, is that ME diapers have been around for awhile and are popular. Some diapers have less feedback and end up with higher ratings. Also, some diapers may have high ratings, but not be what you need. Absorbancy can be highly subjective, and also some people are using un-broken-in diapers, or buying used diapers that could be four years old... there's a lot of variables. I think the general response on the diaper pin forums themselves is positive towards ME diapers, especially the Sandy's.
My fitteds are mainly ME Sandy's. In my opinion the pluses are:
very durable
easy to care for
easy to get a good fit
sizes fit over a large weight range
terry cloth stops runny messes
absorbant
and they look comfortable on my baby (this last point is what makes them my husband's favourite)
And the drawbacks are:
take awhile to dry
don't line dry well
not as soft as some other diapers
no "cute" prints or colours
bulky
I find that the elastic on ME covers isn't as soft as some other covers, but it's the most liquid-proof elastic I've found.
Maybe there's a better diaper out there that I haven't found yet, but I'm very happy with the Sandy's diapers, and I'm not willing to spend a lot of money and time on ebay trying to find something that may or may not exist.
I'm not a huge fan of pocket diapers. I find it easier to put a liner on top than to stuff a pocket, and much easier to clean a liner, than to take the stuffing out of a really dirty diaper and then have to rinse the whole diaper. Also, the ones I bought leak because they don't fit my daughter properly.
At night I've been using a Sandy's, and I either use an infant prefold, a trifolded hemp liner, or two large ME liners. I haven't noticed much difference with any of these combos. I use stay dry liners on top to keep my baby dry.
I really like prefolds and velcro covers, but I do also like Sandy's. Especially for situations when I need a diaper that I know is just not going to leak no matter what.
