We usually wash the cover that we've used that day by hand and hang to dry. Then when we wash our baby's laundry, I throw them in there and hang them to dry. That way they're washed in the machine once or twice a week. We can get away with only using one cover a day without any smell. They're either washed in warm or cold water, never hot. Personally I wouldn't risk throwing them into a hot wash.
