When our daughter was born, a relative gave us a bag of disposable diapers - we used those up and then moved right into small Sandy's. So she was probably only disposable diapered for two weeks - 10 days in hospital (NICU), and a few days at home.

She was over 11 lbs at birth, so she fit nicely into the Sandy's. We have 24 diapers, 12 liners, and 4 covers. She is a heavy wetter, so we just started adding a Sandy's liner to her bedtime diaper, and top it off with a thinner fleece liner. Otherwise, during the day, she is only in a diaper and fleece liner. The fleece liners are great - they keep the pee from sitting right against her skin, and also have prevented any diaper staining, since all the poop gets on the fleece. (you can make the fleece liners yourself by just cutting fleece to the size you want it - no sewing needed)

With this many diapers, we need to wash every two days, but it's not very much work at all. I guess it's what you get used to!

Hope this helps!

: Did you use CD immediately after your child's birth? If so, what type diaper is best for new borns? How many would you initially need? Do you use the liners for each diaper change or only at night?

: Thanks for your help!
