Wash & Care Instructions

Used Diapers

Wet diapers go directly into the diaper pail, no rinsing is necessary. Soiled diapers are rinsed in the toilet, then put into the diaper pail.

When the pail is full, dump the diapers  directly into the washing machine.

Pre-rinse or do a short cycle with warm water and detergent.  Use the detergent you use for the rest of your laundry (without bleach). Avoid the use of fabric softeners, or use just a small amount (over use may result in reduced absorbency).

Wash the diapers in a full cycle, at highest water level, using hot water, and your household detergent (without bleach). Bleach is very harsh against your baby’s skin and may damage the diapers fibers and elastics.

The washed diapers may either be line dried or dried in
the dryer.

Used Covers

Machine wash in warm water using your household detergent (without bleach) and tumble dry on low, or line dry.

Helpful Notes and Hints

Waterproof Covers - can usually be used 3 to 4 times before washing, provided they aren’t soiled.

Diaper Pail - Fill your pail with enough water to cover the diapers. Before putting the diapers in the washer, tap off some of the water into the toilet to ease the weight of the pail, then dump the diapers and the remaining water into the washing machine. After dumping, rinse and refill the pail. Disinfect the pail occasionally.

Diaper Pail Odors- To reduce odors and stains add Borax, Amaze (available in Canada) or ˝ cup of your detergent (no bleach) to your diaper pail. To keep your diapers smelling fresh, change the water in your pail regularly. Set odor may be difficult to remove.

Disposable Liners - To simplify the clean up, disposable liners may be laid into the diapers. These break down in the sewage similar to toilet paper and can make clean up of soiled diapers a little easier (may not be appropriate for septic systems).

Diaper Stains- Rinse soiled diapers promptly in the toilet to minimize stains. Disposable liners (see above) or Stay Dry liners will also help. Should you have a tough stain, you can use a detergent such as Biz with "non-chlorine bleach". Cleaning agents such as these may affect the life of fabrics, use only on an as required basis.

Diaper Rash - A number of factors can cause diaper rashes. The first thing to try is more frequent diaper changes. Should the problem persist, add a cup of vinegar to the final rinse cycle of your wash.
