Well, I'm never going to get to do it over again (4 is more than enough for us!!) but if I did this is what I'd do...

30 x-small bamboo Sandy's
6 x-small Airflows

then...

30 small bamboo Sandy's
6 Airflows

then...

30 large bamboo Sandy's
or
30 bamboo One-Size
or
combo of both (not sure, I like the trimness of the One-Size once it's not folded over but it's not quite absorbant enough on it's own sometimes and really soft poop sometimes escapes the less tight elastic at the legs)

I'm not sure I'd even go into pockets at all... That would be debatable I think. I like the stay-dry feature and quickness but not the fussiness of washing and risk of leaks. I'd consider the ME AIOs for the diaper bag and a fleece liner to keep dry, not sure.

I'd also keep a small stock of G diapers for trips etc... Especially the flushables, they're just sooo flexible. You can use cloth inserts in the G pants or use the flushables in cloth covers (like you would a prefold) or even laid in a pocket diaper. You can also use the flushable to add absorbancy to a nighttime diaper (less bulky than cloth, built-in stay-dry and less stinky in the diaper pail - nice if you're on a trip for example).

Karen.

Hmmm, my perfect stash

12 bamboo small sandy's
12 bamboo OS
12 bamboo large sandy's
6-10 prefolds (for quiet days at home when I'm feeling nostalgic)
6 OS pocket diapers (maybe BG)
12 bamboo toddle-ease if needed
4 ME AF covers in each size
assortment of wool covers - tiny tush, sugar peas etc

I may get an opportunity to fulfill some of this fantasy.  My sister is interested in trying cloth.  If she goes for it, I may give her my old cotton motherease diapers and buy myself some bamboo.

Stacy, not meaning to hijack your thread here at all, but we are now trying to decide on our perfect stash.  I know from using most of ME products with ds, that this time around, that is ALL we are getting. Dh and I both loved it all. My dh likes the sounds of your 'perfect stash' as he wants me to keep it very simple, even down to one diaper type if possible along with ME aios'.
I used the OS for day mostly with ds and then had Sandy's for night.  I was wondering, since you only have the OS listed, do you find the bamboo is equally good and as absorbant as the Sandy's and use it for night too?
And do you feel 18 would be ample for even the newborn stage, if I just planned on washing every day or so?
Thanks for any help.  It's very helpful to hear what others feel would be the ideal stash.  It's soooo hard to decide!!

i think 18 is plenty... IF you plan on doing diaper laundry every night during the nb stage, after that it's probably enough to do laundry every other day (but plan on getting close to running out), i get close, but haven't ever had a problem doing it every other day and i have 18 dipes right now all mother-ease! i have 4 bG! aio diapers on hand for my hubby but he changes a dipe once a week LOL.

i think if you add a liner or 2 to a one-size you'd be fine for night.

one-size dipes are VERY VERY bulky on a new born, but i think that's a little petty if you're trying to get the most bang for your buck (and trying to keep it simple). don't plan on the "premie/newborn" clothes fitting... but that wouldn't bother me (i think i'm one in a million).

one-sizes are just a tiny bit less absorbent than a sandy's, but with a doubler like i said you'd be fine... hope that helps! happy shopping!!

oh, and i love my bamboo!

I have a two mo old and we go through at least 18-20 diapers in a 24 hour period.  Love my bamboo onesize, but I reach for the sandies at night time....this doesn't mean that the os wouldn't work, but the sandies are great for night time.  Hope that helped.

If I had to choose one type of diaper, it would absolutely be the OS, especially if there were a chance of having two in diapers at one time.  The Sandys are a little easier for non-primary-users to make sense of during the folded-over stage (OS aren't rocket science, but still).
The S Sandys are slightly less absorbant than an OS, and the L are slightly more absorbant (check the oz on the product pages for exact numbers).  Even though I have L Sandys and tend to use them at night, and OS with a liner has always been perfectly adequate--it's what I do when I travel because then I take with only my OS.
For a different perspective on numbers, though, I like to have at least 24 diapers(or even more; I have 25 with #1, and have about 30 with #2), because I feel like the environmental and cost impact of getting more diapers up front is more than offset by the fact that I can do the wash less frequently and line-dry.

For twins:

36 XS Sandy's with XS Air Flow (they worked with preemie and NB clothes!)

36 S Sandy's
18 OS
M and M/L Airflow

36 L Sandy's
18 OS (that I had before)
M/L and L Airflow

Right now I have unbleached, but if I had the money I would go for the bamboo.

I found that when in the small Sandy's, the OS worked great at night with two liners. For my preference, the OS were just too bulky before my boys got to 17 lbs. Even with all of these diapers I wash almost daily, but this allows me to never be frantic that I am going to run out. I also never have to wait up to throw anything in the dryer (and turn it on more time) so that we have diapers for daycare.

I know this is an older thread but I'm hoping that someone can tell me why you might want the same number of LG Sandy's as SM ones?

My baby is just about to outgrow her XS Sandy's.  We have 25 of these and that has been the perfect number for us to do a wash every other day.

What I'm thinking is that I may need to only purchase 20 SM Sandy's and then eventually 15 LG Sandy's since diaper changes will become somewhat less frequent as baby ages therefore less diapers will be required in a 48 hour period.  Does this make sense?  I'd really appreciate some input from anyone with experience using Sandy's through to potty training.

Thanks!
Crystal

Well, in part because even though you change a little less frequently, you may be able to extend how often you do laundry by having the same number of diapers. I also figure that I may be more likely to line dry as baby gets older, so that might off set some of the less frequent stages...

There's also the fact that babies tend to be in the bigger diapers for longer periods (obviously not all babies, but the average baby would probably spend a lot longer in the larges than in the smalls) so if you want to keep them for future babies then a larger stash would allow each individual diaper to be washed a little less frequently and remain in a bit better shape.

When my girls were older I would also let them go coverless sometimes during the summer, so even though they were well past the newborn stage they would get changed as frequently if not more often because I could see/feel the wetness immediatly. I found it easier to do this when they were older cause I didn't have to constantly worry about where they were sitting/lying, when they're older they walk around a lot more as opposed to always being in someone's arms or whatever.

But really it's all up to you. There's no huge, all important reason you can't diminish your stash as baby gets older. We all have different preferences and different circumstances...

Karen.

All bamboo sandy's:
26 Small
26 Large
26 Toddle-ease(my boy is HUGE!)
15 liners
5 small 5 medium 5 large 5 x-large AF covers.
4 OS bamboo for the diaper bag.

I'm currently working on the gradual switch from large Sandy's to toddle-ease. And maybe someday I'll find some bamboo OS used. But I'd never use anything but ME, I love their stuff!

So, Nakedbabytoes, I'm curious... Why OS for the diaper bag if you used sandy's? Or did you mean AIO's?

You don't have to worry about having the right size of diaper in the bag no matter how old your baby is. So newborn, infant, or toddler you got 'em all covered. And since baby is wearing a cover already, you should be fine that way too. My boy is big, so I have a few sets of extenders in there also. So basically, it's for ease of forgetfullness(remembering to have the right size diaper), cost(how often you use those bag diapers), and my hatred of the posie!

I might have gone overboard in gathering my stash.  I'm new to CD and am due in 10 days with my 2nd boy.  I need some voices of experience to tell me what to weed out or add.  Heres what I've got:

30 meos dry (used only once by a well meaning mother)
4 stay dry liners (ditto)
24 unbleached prefolds (unwashed and new in package, so I can return
these)
6 hemp liners (washed never used)
8 terry liners (used)
8 kushies (used)
6 bummis wraps in small/medium (used)
12 gdiaper covers in medium with 90 inserts and 20 extra liners
2 rolls of flushable liners
diaper pail

Congratulations! I am also due soon, 3 days, with my second boy! From reading what everyone else has, I probably don't have enough. We'll have to wait and see!

So far:

12 ME sm Sandies

13 ME OS

12 infant prefolds

4 sm AF covers

2 nb Thirsties covers

PUL pail liner

cloth wipes

That's it!  I'm excited to try the prefolds with nb covers, I think I will like those best in the beginning...

Good luck!

Gatorgal98, I think your stash looks like plenty!  I had 25 diapers from the start and found it to be a great amount, and you've got 12 prefolds on top of that--another day to put off the wash.  Maybe by now you're already using them!
