How long do MEOS last? (mlc509)

Hi ya'll,

I just got some used MEOS and I really love them on my 16 month old.  But to be honest, they don't seem all that absorbent.  They are definitely older (they have the old green tag) and beginning to be threadbare in spots.  The liners seem pretty thin too.  So when he pees, the outside of the MEOS is wet right away.  Is this normal, even for the new MEOS?  I'm wondering if I should buy some new liners, if that might help with absorbancy.  I guess I just don't know what to expect.  Do new MEOS with liners soak up more w/o leaking through?  I like for him to be coverless while we're at home, but I might have to give that up....

I bought new bamboo MEOS for my DS - he's 8 months old now, so they're fairly new. They are nice and thick and show no sign of wear, but when he pees, I can feel it on the outside right away. I still leave him without a cover at home sometimes, but I have to expect wetness (he doesn't sit on the sofa yet, so it's not the end of the world). At home, I sometimes put some fleece pants on top of his diaper with no cover; seems to keep the wetness on the inside of the pants and I assume it breaths better than a cover. Then I wash the pants. Hope that helps!

Nope, that's totally normal, even for brand new super absorbant diapers. Wet cloth will wet all the way through, that's just natural.

That said, if they're getting threadbare, then they probably aren't as absorbant as they once were. A liner would help this.

Or you could do like another poster did and sew in some fabric in the middle in order to increase the absorbancy of the diaper. Pretty easy to do really, no elastic to worry about or anything fancy. See the thread title "Look what I did to my OS!". I think it's a great idea...

Karen.

My OS were alot more absorbant for my DS but are much thinner now with my second child as I have been putting them in the dryer most of the time.   Line drying would help them last a bit longer.  Also, like you say you could use liners and that's what we do.  I have some flat folds that I fold up and put in and that definitely makes them more aborbant.
