| In the shower? How awesome. So how often do you empty? I mean, I am not weird, but I was changing a pad every 2 hours max, yuk factor, plus sometimes leaked. The only tampon I could ever wear was the OB due to how short it was. I will look more into it. Thanks. |

| If you're looking for momma pads in Ontario (or anywhere else for that matter), check out etsy.com. I don't know if there are any, but you can search for lots of handmade items (including momma pads) by geographical region. A lot of cloth diaper stores (and I know Ontario has many!) also carry momma pads, so check them out in your area too. |
|
|
|
| I have those pads as well. I really love them but with the wings you have to be careful about wicking onto the wings. I also have ones that dont have wings and you have to pin them on. I put one of these under the sorella-luna pads(they have a waterproof backing)That combonation works for most of the day. I have found though since using cloth my periods are lighter and I no longer get cramps(i used to get them all the time) |
|
|
|
| Really? I hope that helps me. I am going to also order 2 homemade momma pads, they are like huge, but I think it may help me. You say you pin on the ones with out the wings, what kind of pins? Safety pins? |
|
|
|
| Yep safety pins. just make sure the pin is on the outside(ouch if it opened up on the inside) My other ones without wings I got from ebay. There is this diaper store in BC and she makes the pads. They look huge but once you have them on they are not. They are also thinner and you can't even really tell they are on.(the 2 pad combo is thicker and you can feel it there) |

My friend and I have been discussing the diva cup for a couple of months, but both of us have been too scared to try it. A pp said it only had to be emptied twice a day. Is that right? Do you just empty it and then clean it in a sink or what?
With cloth pads, is there some kind of "cover" to keep it from getting your panties/pants wet? I would be interested in trying them if that is the case.

| If you go on the diva cup website, it says 4 times a day to empty, but yes, just rinse it. I am too scared to try it, right now. Let me know if you do. Also on the pads, I ordered a wet bag for that. Some places have a wet bag with 2 sides, one for clean and one for dirty. I just needed a simple one as I carry a diaper bag to almost everywhere I go. Good luck. I am waiting for my Sorella Luna pads hopefully this week. Plus I plan to order some homemademomma pads for night time, as soon as I get the hyenacart thing figured out (waiting on an email). I will post my results. |

I empty my Keeper twice a day, sometimes I readjust (and empty while I'm at it) once during the day if I have a bowel movement (sorry if that's tmi!) but that's it. I just empty/rinse in the morning and then forget about it till bedtime! Most people I know do about the same thing, some people empty it an extra time during the day at the height of their cycle. My instructions said 2-4 times if I remember correctly so I think it's perfectly sanitary. Then you give it a good wash in the sink at the end of your cycle and store till next month.
For pads, most of them have a built-in layer of PUL to prevent wicking through to panties. I don't think my mini-pads do but then they're only for absorbing a few drops here and there so it's not necessary.
For anyone scared to try the Diva Cup, check out the warranty on it, I 90% sure that they have a one year no-questions asked free refund guarantee! Makes sense really, they know it's an unusual product so they have to make it risk-free for women to try it. A little while ago <A href="http://www.iherb.com">www.iherb.com</A> had a great deal for them. They're $18.99 plus shipping and you can get $5 off with this code: KAS985. Not sure if it's still valid or not but even without the code it's still a great deal. They're a US website but they ship cheaply to Canada too!

You are correct 2-3 times a day. http://www.divacup.com/en/products/faqs/ Or at least every 12 hours. It may have been the moon cup that said 4 times a day.
AT karens website you can ship for like $1.50 US so like $20.00.
Do you really not feel it?

Yup, I really don't feel it. It's happened that I've totally forgotten I'm even having my period and have to remind myself to empty/rinse the cup!
Thanks for the link, and FYI, I checked on their return policy and they no longer have the one year refund guarantee. They do offer refunds on manufacture's defects but that's it. It's too bad because it's a similar guarantee that made me finally take the plunge with my Keeper, but then for $20 (or less if that code still works) then it's not that big a risk...
Oh, and just looked it up... The Keeper is still offering their money back guarantee <A href="http://www.thekeeper.com/guarantee/">http://www.thekeeper.com/guarantee/</A> Try it for 3 months and if you don't like it you get your money back (minus shipping). The Keeper is basically the same thing except made from natural rubber instead of silicone (silicone is a little better if you have latex sensitivities). They also carry the Keeper mooncup which is silicone and has the same guarantee.

I completely agree with Fanfreleuche's post! How can blood be grosser than poop? I've been using the Diva Cup since I restarted my period after dd was born (I was officially on the cloth bandwagon!!!) and LOVE it. I'm not a pad person either, but prefer tampons, so the Diva Cup works for me. If you start using it young enough, it will definitely pay for itself. I didn't find it till I was 36! lol~
I am also now looking to replace all my paper towels with thin dish towels and have moved toward using cloth napkins. Why not wash, wash, wash, instead of fill the landfill?
As for cleaning my Diva Cup, I'll just add this. I use a natural biodegradable phosphate-free dishwashing detergent. In between changes during my period, I wash it with hot water and re-insert (you can't feel it once it's in there - or if you do, it's in wrong). After my period's over, I'll put the Diva Cup in the dishwasher. Remember, I don't use the commercial non-biodegradable detergents, so I don't get irritation! HTH! |

|
| re: question about emptying the diva cup - it basically ties to how fast you bleed. I can empty twice a day. It holds a lot. Hope that's not gross! I empty over the toilet though you could do it in the shower and then just wash it all down. Ha ha! You can always clean the shower floor afterward!!! |

For the mom looking to order in Ontario, I'm not sure what province these are from but U remember now, I ordered from here:
http://www.newmoonpads.com/home.html
They are made in Canada by a WAHM and they are great. I would recommend ordering dark colours. I will get dark blue next time but they are lasting a very long time.

| Got my Pads today, washed them ASAP. I love em. But now, I need tighter underwear. I deserve some new ones anyway. But I think I may need to pin the one with wings down, it shifts. Will the snug fit undies help? |

I have a Diva Cup. It just isn't working for me. I can get it in so that it won't fall out (it is very comfortable), but then it leaks. Or I can make it so it doesn't leak, but then it slips out. I can wear it at night. On my heaviest night I need to empty it once, but after that I'm good for all night.
I also have some Lunapads which I need to try again. I've thought about trying some other pads, but haven't found any that suit my fancy. |
|
|
|
| I like the sorella luna pads, but I have to pin them, they are a little small for me as I have a very heavy flow. I like how you say it was comfortable. If I get this cloth pad down, I am going to try it. Just can;t afford to spend so much money all at one, especially since I just went FT CDing. I am waiting for Homemade momma pads, they look vey comfortable and I really liked her website and comments. |

Hmm, maybe you could email the folks at Diva Cup for some help, I'm sure they could help you figure this out. There's also Yahoo groups dedicated to menstrual cups so I'm sure they could help too. How much leaking are we talking about here? A few drops throughout the day may well be normal (it certainly is for me, as it was when I was using tampons -this is why I use Luna mini-pads as backup). I'm a little confused though as to how the cup can slip out and yet still not leak, not sure I understand what you mean...
For those of you having trouble with shifting pads or having to pin them, I highly recomend Luna pads. They have three small snaps that really work superbly to keep the pad in place. I have one of another brand that has only one snap and it shifts horribly (and my undies are plenty snug), I can't imagine having one with no fasteners at all.

When I put them in so that they don't come out then a pantiliner is overwhelmed. I would guess about half of my flow made it into the cup.
If I put it in so that it doesn't leak then over the course of 15 minutes it slides further and further down such that I can feel the bottom ridges of the cup outside, rubbing on my underwear. It is so uncomfortable, and it does slide all the way out (Then it leaks). At night it stays in because of lack of gravity or something.
I've read a lot of the LiveJournal posts, but I haven't found a solution. I tried doing kegels for a couple months, and it didn't help. I'm wondering if my cervix is just in a weird spot TMI - sorry. I need to go back to LiveJournal and look again. |
|
|
|

Hmm, and you're sure you have the right size? Very odd... I don't think it would have anything to do with your cervix though, I don't think it's meant to sit that high up.
I'd give the makers of the Diva a call and see what they have to say. Or if that doesn't help try posting a question on a menstrual cup support board or group. I don't know much about LiveJournal but on Yahoo I found 4 menstrual cup support groups - <A href="http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=menstrual+cup">http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=menstrual+cup</A> (not sure why that last part isn't clickable but you can always just do the search, I found it really easily). I know that when I first got my Keeper I checked out the Keeper group and they were very supportive and full of great ideas.
There's also the possibility that the Diva Cup might not work for you but the Keeper might. They make a silicone version now too so if latex/rubber is a concern for you then you can use it instead. And the nice thing about the Keeper is that they offer a money-back guarantee so you're risking very little (I think they don't refund shipping costs) should you have the same problems.
Hope that helps, I just adore my Keeper, hopefully you'll figure this out and feel the love too! LOL!
Karen.

I find that with tighter underwear they fit better. You can always pin them just in case.
