Hello everyone,
My baby has eczema and extremely sensitive skin. At the moment we are using Baby Dove soap and Glaxall Base cream (recommended by the pharmacist), but I am looking for more natural alternatives. Any suggestions about natural baby soaps, shampoos and creams that are reasonably affordable. I am not a fan of Burt's Bees and was thinking about using some products from Druide, but before I spend my money, I thought I would ask you moms.
Thanks.

I LOVE Druide and have used nothing else on my 2 DD (3.5 yrs and 16 mos).  They are more expensive than Burt's but I feel worth it.  I cannot comment on problem skin as my girls have generally always had it easy there, but I guess the only way you will find out is by trying them.  One negative is that the shampoo in the Baby line is SO runny and does not lather well at all.  Lather is not an indicator of cleaning ability, but I like more suds (that is just me though!).  The Baby soaps are wonderful and last forever without ever getting mushy.
Hope this helps!  I love this line of Canadian products!

You should take a look at the cosmetic database (http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/index.php?nothanks=1). They rate personal products according to function and toxicity. They were in the news lately for their study of sun screens. Smaller companies are not all tested, but some supposedly natural products get surprisingly bad ratings...

My husband is very sensitive to perfumes and chemicals, so we wanted a diaper cream that didn't smell. We use Weleda diaper cream and we love it, it has a faint but natural smell and it didn't cause a build-up in my diapers. We use simple glycerin soap for our baby and us, no perfume, no die, it seems to work perfectly. As for shampoo, we use Curelle. It's a Canadian company (BC) so not sure if it's widely available. It's not a kid's shampoo, but it's natural, mild and it seems to work very well for us like for our babe. A bit pricey though, but I'm not sure what the price of Druide is so I can't compare. HTH

Thanks for the advice. I will probably try Druide since it is easily available.  I have found a place that sells the products in small format, so it is worth a try.
Thanks again.

My baby also has eczema and I have been giving her baking soda baths at night. I add about 1/4 cup of baking soda to her bath (she is in a large baby tub so I would use more or less depending on the size tub you use) and let her play for about 15 minutes. It seems to soothe some of the itchies. I also put shea butter (100% shea butter) on the eczema patches. Every few days I wash her with soap (I use Burt's Bees). I have had to use a prescription cream but really try to keep the eczema under control without it.

My little guy also has terrible eczema. We were using a perscription cream for him as a last resort. Galaxal base didn't help at all. I tried numerous creams from the health food store. Then I found a system (cream and body wash) called Spectro kids eczema care. it works wonders. it is made by Glaxosmithkline, the web site is www.spectroskincare.com
