Ecological napkins? (Finlay)
Posted: 10:54:10 am on 7/30/2008 Modified: Never

Hi all,

Recently I have known that for our kids exist, more than the ecological washable diapers, indian corn diapers made of mater-bi o pla; it is the material that the bags you use to collect the moist of the sorted waste collection are made of.

The only I have found are made only for the 80% of this material, so I must throw them in the generical garbage.

Does anyone know if exists fully compostable diapers so that I can throw them in the sorted waste collection or in my private composter to produce plant food?

A big thank you to everyone who can help me.

If you look into g-diapers, they are basically a reusable cover with a snap-in insert that is supposed to be fully compostable (as in your home compost bin) if they are only wet. They can be flushed if dirty (health issues with composting feces, although I imagine there are ways to do this safely if you have enough time and proper facilities, since I know that composting toilets exist . . .).
I think that g-diapers are primarily available in North America, but there may be other similar systems out there.

Gdiapers are based on an Australian invention called Eenie Weenies I believe. Same premise but slightly different design I think... They may be available where you are (assuming you aren't in the US or Canada). Or you can order from the G diapers website: www.gdiapers.com

Just a correction, the snap-in liner isn't actually the part that's compostable/flushable. It's made of nylon, snaps into the cotton 'pants' and holds the flushable liner in place.

I've used them and absolutly adore the flushables! They truly do decompose totally (I threw quite a few in my compost bin last year and I haven't seen a trace in ages) although some do have problems with flushing (be careful and make sure your system can handle this). I did have some wicking/leaking issues with the pants that I might have been able to solve had I bothered to take the time. There's a Gdiapers Yahoo list that's a great help! I also used mine in traditional cloth diaper velcro covers and even laid on a pocket diaper shell - for me this worked even better than the Gpants!

Karen.

Take a look at http://www.natureboyandgirl.net/

They offer a corn starch based disposable diaper. Testimonials state that it is fully compostable. If you decide to use them let me know how they work. My babies are due in 6 weeks and I have my eye on them.

Thanks!

I saw these one at a small shop in the UK and wondered about them at the time. It says they're from Sweden, so I'd guess they're available at least in Europe, too.

in my opinion, natureboyandgirl are not compostable.

Then, I go to try the gdiapers

Meanwhile thanks.
Bye bye
