I am already getting breakdown inside of the diaper. I can feel the floating bits of lint. This happened to my OS. But only after FOUR years! ( two kids to PT!) Any one else?
I feel very sad about this. These are the replacements from ME after the binding issues. They are not even 1 year old. |

|
| How do you launder and dry? Are these OS or Sandy's? I jusr ordered a bunch of L bamboo Sandy's to replace my 36 cotton and 18 OS cotton. |

THey are OS.
Wash routine:
Cold rinse hot/warm cycle hot/cold cylce
tumble dry low
This is exactly the same routine I did for my OS cotton, and I didn't see this problem until they were practically worn through. |

| Mine are OK but I stopped drying them in the dryer except to finish up because I was getting a lot of lint. It scared me since I have had mine since June. I suggest calling ME. |

Let us know what happens. The same thing is happening to mine (I exclusively line dry) but I thought it was normal!! Yikes.

interesting. Glad I'm not the only one. I hesitate to call them, bc they have sent me two separate replacement shipments.
I don't want to seem like I'm begging for new dipes, KWIM? |

I'm just curious if anyone having this problem with their bamboo diapers ended up phoning ME? I'd love to know what ME may have to say about the issue and the durability / longevity of their bamboo material.

I sent them an email. They replied to me that it was "normal."
I'm sure it is "normal" in the sense that the fiber breaks down, but I don't think it should be happening on dipes that are less than a year old.
Obviously, air drying would solve this problem, but the bamboo takes a long time, and I do not have that many dipes in rotation.
Sadly, I made the decision to sell these, and return to cotton because I know they are much more durable. |

Thanks for the update. I'm going to be purchasing my first set of ME diapers soon and I've been trying to decide between unbleached cotton and bamboo. I want my Sandy's to last through up to 3 children (at least that's how many we hope to have :-)

I'd go with cotton. My original 30 went through my first two to PT (9 months of that with them both in diapers, so washing daily sometimes)
I could have used them for #3, but he is a heavy wetter, and it was time to get some absorbency back.lol! |

|
| Bummer! After spending around $400 on Bamboo, to hear they might not even last 1 kiddo birth thru PT?! Shameful. I don't care about re-selling them or using them again since this babe is our last, but to worry that they won't even last him until PT......disappointing to say the least! |

Is this really about the diapers not really lasting, or more that they are beginning to get those interior lint-balls that some people experience (I have yet to see any after 3.5 years of continuous use with my cotton OS, but I do line-dry)? Obviously getting those balls probably isn't a great sign for longevity, but the diapers may very well do fine in lasting one child birth through PT, which is, after all, the official longevity claim for ME diapers (though many of us obviously get a lot longer use out of ours!).

Personally, I am talking about lint balls, which DO NOT affect function in any way. But some other mamas I know are experiencing wear ( balding spots).
I think it is just inherent in the fabric bc it is so soft. I sold my BG bamboo fitteds bc they had bald spots very quickly.
I am not deterred from ME in any way. I'm happy with my cotton. SAd to see the bamboo go simply bc they are trimmer and very soft. |

| So does Bamboo "pill" like a fleece? Is that what is really going on? Since they said it's "normal" to have the lint balls. ME is not the only ones who use Bamboo as a material for diapers. Has anyone had issues with breakdown of Bamboo fabric with other brands of diapers? I just can't believe that cloth diapers would be made out of material that breaks down so easily. I mean, we all know how much they will be used and what they will be used for. |

| I bought 6 OS bamboo when they first came out. They are in rotation with 35 other OS cotton diapers, some of which were bought used. My baby just turned one year, and a couple of the bamboo are worn on the binding. The cotton ones are still going strong, and showing no signs of wear. I don't use any bleaches, and almost always line dry. And there were several months that we ended up using disposables too. I'm bummed about the bamboo, I really liked them, too. |

| I'm one of the ones who has been having trouble with the Bamboo diapers... Mine have bare spots on them after less than a year of use (some of them can barely be used without a liner!), but my cotton ones, which are much older, are fine!! ME originally told me that the bare spots were due to a chemical reaction from something I had used on them, but I have never used bleached or even oxyclean, so I have no idea why they are all falling apart. I purchased 15 new cotton ones, and as much as I loved the trim fit of the bamboo, I wouldn't buy any more of them because we are planning on having more children and I need them to last!! |

Well, I was taking my diapers off the line today and found little holes all along the binding on my one bamboo one. I've read about that issue on this forum (and think that ME has since changed the binding?), but was still sad to see it on my one experimental bamboo. The diaper itself is still in great shape, but then it has been used less than a year, in large rotation, and line-dried. I have no such holes on my cotton OS used for two children and still going strong. Hopefully it's just a matter of working out the kinks with this new fabric, but I guess if I were considering purchasing a whole set of diapers (with the hopes of getting them through more then one child), I'd probably want to see a little longer track record with bamboo's longevity, given the anecdotal concerns expressed on this forum. For environmental reasons, if I were to do it again and had the money, I'd probably opt for organic cotton. |

This is VERY upsetting to hear. I am new to cloth diapering and decided to go with ME because of their great dipes and good reputation. I remember when people were first complainig about the binding issues on the bamboo, and because I was concerned, I gave ME a call. The woman on the phone assured me that If I follwoed ME washing instructions (including dryer instructions) the bamboo dipes would be fine. Yes, they are only supposed to last 1 child until PT, but for them to be breaking down after 1 year is unacceptable. Cloth diapers are supposed to be built to last...we shouldn`t have to put a liner in the diaper because it starts to get bald spots on it after only 1 year of use. In fact, I have ME cotton diapers from a friend that have gone through 5 kids!!!I am very upset about this because it was a huge decision and cost to go with the bamboo. I have 6 cotton OS, and 20 bamboo. While my bamboo are still going strong, I have only had them for about 3 months and do not want to have to replace any of the diapers after 1 year. Also, not to menton the fact that I raved about the bamboo to all of my friends, and since then, 3 of them have bought bamboo diapers from ME. Okay, this may not be ME`s problem, but I really think they should take their bamboo diapers off the matket until they fix the problem. Or at least test the diapers on friends and family before selling them. Furhermore, although the bamboo dipes were new to ME, and those who chose to go with them may have considered the idea that there would be problems with them...as problems are normal with any new products; I am sure noone worried about ME replacing the dipes since their customer service has normally been so good. However, for them to say that such breakdown is normal,(if this is indeed what was said) is unacceptable. In short, I am NOT sastified with ME`s response to all of these complaints. They should be prepared to replace any bamboo diapers that were laundered according to ME instructions, and are showing signs of early breakdown. Personally, I am kicking myself for having ordered a second batch of bamboo dipes after the first complaints were posted, and I am strongly considering selling my dipes (although I will lose A LOT of money, and I am sure no one will want them). Hopefully the dipes will last more than a year, or at least until my child is potty trained, or ME won`t be getting any more business from me, regardless of the quality of their cotton dipes. Sorry to sound so harsh, but I am very disappointed that I may have to replace my bamboo diapers before they got their full use. |

| I hear ya! Are these issues with just the MEOS Bamboo? I have Sandy's in Bamboo and I love them. It worries me to think that I might have to buy more diapers before my son is PT due to wear. I agree that if we all wash and dry(YES, the instructions on each and every tag say "tumble dry medium") then why would we be at fault for premature failure? IF ME continues to have issues with the Bamboo, then they should pull them off the market and replace our Bamboo stashes with something that will hold up like we all thought they would. Who buys cloth diapers assuming they will only last a year or so? I mean, come on..... |
|
|
|
| I too thought it was normal wear, and didn't expect it to get worse. I've never even seen cloth diapers before I bought these, so I had no idea they weren't supposed to last. Maybe this is why other companies have pulled their bamboo lines. I'm hoping ME does something for us before my husband notices! |
