  Diapering 2! Tips? (mom2many)

We had a 3 month old baby come to live with us recently and I am finding diapering 2 is way different to 1.(I also have 3 other children and 4 grown children, 9 altogether, so I'm used to being super busy) I had been stocking up on one size diapers for quite a while so that if we did get a smaller baby,I would be ready,so that worked out really well. I was in a routine of washing diapers every day with our 1 year old and now I find that we have way too many diapers for 1 load and have to do 2 loads. (if I put too much in my washer is squeeks like crazy) I'm feeling really busy but I think it's probably just an adjustment period. Do you have any tips or time saving measures for diapering 2 babies? My twins are 18, and I really can't remember back that far. LOL

Try a liner for your 1-yr-old.  You may not have to change him as often, and there's less bulk in a liner than a diaper when it comes to your washing machine.  I used to line dry my diapers, but with the rainy weather we've been having ALL summer, and because I need more diapers with two bums, I don't have time to do that, so I put them in the dryer.  That saves time, and a little bit of work.  Also in terms of time, I have two change stations set up, one on each level of the house.  As long as I keep them well-stocked, it works realy well.  I also have to put in a plug for a new fromt-loadre washing machine.  Mine is huge (good for a large family), and we've noticed a difference on our water bill!

I would imagine that with a large family a new front-loader would pay for itself pretty quickly.  You could run larger loads less often, and if you get one with a pretty good spin speed, you can also save money on dryer usage, since your tired old dryer will suddenly get things gone a lot, lot faster with so much less water in them.  Don't know if that's the budget anywhere, but it might really improve your quality of life, since I would think nothing of a load of 24 diapers.
When I had two in diapers it was a little different, a two-year-old and a newborn, but I didn't think the washing part was so bad.  For me the tough part was trying to make sure I had enough diapers in each size, but if you are already using OS, you don't have that problem.  I was also trying to continue line-drying all my diapers, and it took me a while to figure out the timing for that.
I tried two changing stations, but found it too hard to keep them both stocked, but depending on how your house is set up and what your routines are, it could work for you.
Good luck on the adjustment!

I know this doesn't help, but I have always just washed one load a day with my twins. It worked from the time they were newborns (and used more diapers) to now when they are 16 months. Do you know why your washer squeeks? Is it just annoying or is something wrong? Does it do that with clothes? I'm just wondering if you can still wash all in one load or if you really do need to split them up. Good luck!

I thought I had lots of diapers but now I find I could use more. I had way too many with just one in cloth. I ran out of covers last night and put both babes in sposies and this morning the 1 year old was soaked through everything. DH got him up and was totally disgusted with the disposables, also they both had red bums. I have always washed 1 load every day and now it's just more, I have been throwing them all in together though. We are adjusting fast and little one is an angel, really happy and content, thank goodnes. I have had my eye on a couple of new washers and just never made the purchase but now might be a good time to do so. I have a front loader sitting in my garage that I switched out for the older top loader because I wasn't happy with the front loader, but it's a few years old. The new ones do look a lot nicer.
