This summer I have made an effort to go entirely cloth. I find it more work, but am enjoying the benefits greatly. Last weekend, when we went away to my in-laws, I ended up using disponsibles. My poor little guy hated the feel when they were wet and walked around with his legs apart and begged me to change him. That really sold me on going totally cloth -- not only does it save money and help the environment, but my little guy likes it better.
Since I am doing cloth more regularily, I am trying to find ways to make it easier (especially since my fourth baby is due in January and I may have two in diapers then). My questions are:
1. Is a diaper sprayer worth the money? I so want to do a dry pail, but find the smell too much. I thought maybe a sprayer would help get the diapers a bit cleaner before I put them in. And what sprayer is good?
2. If I do go to a dry pail system, I would love to use diaper/wet bags instead of the pail. I hate cleaning the pail and would love just throwing the bag in with the diapers. Does anyone have a favourite diaper wet bag? And where do you get them in the Toronto area?
Thanks ever so much. You ladies are an inspiration to me!

Sprayer - well worth the money! My family recently went on vacation for a week and we took our cloth dipes with us. We were without a sprayer that whole time. I knew that I loved my sprayer before, now I CHERISH my sprayer! WOW, it just makes cleanup so much easier. And the dipes get so much cleaner too, less staining. It's like night and day just how much easier the sprayer makes using cloth FT. We use a 5 gallon bucket with a screw on lid. We dry pail for 3 days between washings. I've never wet bagged, so I can't advise. But I just spray his pail with Bac-out while the dipes are being washed and let it dry. The enzymes do all the work, no wiping or scrubbing required. I have yet to scrub or wipe out his pail, 8 months later. Man, I've got it made, don't I? I love CD! Cheers! |

| You need a sprayer!! I can't imagine cloth without one.Mine is 3 years old and still going fine, so yes worth it. I dry pail and have never had any smell problems. I use a liner, can't imagine not using one. I like Wahmies the best, I bought it online. I know Diaper-eez at Jane & Bloor sells the Bummis pail liner they are ok as well. |

We really like our diaper sprayer. It is well worth the money.
There are lots of places you can order from. You may want to google to compare prices. Here is what it looks like.

We use a wet pail but I know many people use dry pail with no probs.
We use a bummis tote bag when we're out.
Diaper-eez is in Toronto. I'm not sure if they carry sprayers but they mailed a bummis tote bag to me and I know they carry Mother-ease diapers as well.

Thanks for the information. I just ordered the mini-shower from Jamtots and it should arrive soon. I am going to wait on the wet bags until I see how the sprayer helps. I may also get my mom to sew some for me!

I had not heard of these until today - interesting concept. We just dunk, swish, and flush in the toilet, then rinse in the sink before depositing in the dry pail with a sit-on lid. We've never had smell issues. During laundry day, I rinse the pail out with super hot water and then spray it with a water-tea tree oil mix (natural antiseptic and anti-bacterial). I also use the spray on the potty as he's starting to toilet train.
I've never had the guts to leave unrinsed diapers in the dry pail, so every diaper always gets a good rinse in the sink first. |

| We got a diaper sprayer by accident. My husband has digestive problems so he has a little screw in budet on a hose on each toilet. You can turn up the pressure and it makes cloth diaper clean up so easy! We only paid something like $20 for each of them. So worth it! A must have for cloth diapering. |

I do have a diaper sprayer but haven't had to use it yet, my baby isn't eating solids yet so I do a pre-wash and then the sanitary cycle. I do LOVE my wet bags. The wet bags I use have a little terry cloth insert sewen in to the inside of the bag so you can put a little of your favorite essential oil like lavendar oil. This really helps with the smell! Plus you don't have to clean your pail or touch dirty diapers to put them in the wash. I just dump the bag in the washing machine and turn it inside out and it washes with the diapers. I have 2 so if one is in the wash I have another to put in the pail. I have travel wet bags that I use when we our out. I love these too, and they also have the terry cloth for the oil. I bought my bags at www.nickisdiapers.com the travel bags are Whammies and the pail bags are Mother of Eden. They even have the matching wet bags for cloth wipes, which I also use. I hope this helps you. -js |
