  Overnight -One Dry? (ksansone0726)

Has anyone used the one dry for overnight use?  My 1 mo.old heavy wetter is soaking through his 2 prefolds, cover and pj's.  So I could use a new system!  It's getting old changing all of that every night!

Do you mean the One Size Dry?
If so, I use the regular cotton, but the absorbancy is the same.  I have always used the One Size or Sandys at night and found them to be great.  You can add additional liner/boosters for more absorbancy if you need them.  My DS#2 who is in diapers now isn't a heavy wetter, but DS#1 was, and they always did the job for him.

I've used the OS Dry at night and it does a good job, no leaks, but it gets so saturated that the stay-dry liner can't possibly feel dry.  A regular OS would work just the same.  Congrats on new baby!

I haven't tried any of the dry diapers and I'm not sure if you were just looking to try the One-Size to just try another diaper or for the dryness aspect but if it's for the dryness you wanted then remember that you'll likely have to cover it up anyway in a nighttime diaper. The One-Size dry isn't any more absorbant than any other of the One-Size diapers so for nighttime you'll likely have to add a liner or two to boost the absorbancy. By doing so you're covering up the 'dry liner' on the One-Size, rendering it useless as it needs to be in contact with skin to work.

One thing though, leaking even with two prefolds is a little unusual, even for heavy wetters. If you're using the preemie/newborn prefolds maybe it's time to move up a size as those are really pretty flimsy... Two infant prefolds should provide plenty of absorbancy even for a super heavy wetter (theoretically they should absorb about as much as he'd pee in an entire day!!!). I'm thinking the problem isn't so much absorbancy but some kind of fit problem that's causing leaks.

What kind/size of cover are you using? How are you folding the prefolds? If you're just trifolding and laying in a wrap the problem may be that the prefolds are so thick that the cover can't 'reach' all the way over them to cover them completly around the crotch area. Then onesies or pjs can creep inside and wick out moisture. A different fold may help by spreading some of the fabric out differently to reduce the thickness between the legs. A different or bigger cover might also help. Same with making sure that the pjs or especially the onesies aren't too snug as that might make them more likely to creep inside the diaper. A fitted diaper like the One-Size or Sandy's might also help since some of the absorbancy is around the hips instead of all being between the legs. The bamboo might be something to consider as well. It's not necessarily more absorbant (the fabric is more absorbant but they make the diapers trimmer so the absorbancy is the same) but because it's trimmer you could add more to the diaper without making it too bulky.

Karen.

I started with the XS Sandy's and that was when my boys were up every 4-5 hours. Then I went to the S Sandy's with an absorbant dry liner. That worked fine, but eventually had to go to two liners. When I picked up some OS, I used those (they are slightly more absorbant than the S Sandy's) with a liner or two. Then I moved to the L Sandy's and at this point use one liner--but the last few nights Nathaniel has wet through his diaper and liner and left a puddle when he sat on the stool as soon as he got up (the boys still breastfeed in the night). But, I really had no trouble until now and just added liners as needed.

Thanks for all the replies!  I am trifolding the infant prefold and a newborn prefold as well.  The cover seems to cover them from what I can tell.  I think I might try a Sandies with an airflow cover since I didn't realize that the one size have an inner part that covered up with liner would make it useless.  Sometime I may need to use a liner with a diaper for nighttime use and that would defeat the purpose if the stay dry liner didn't work. Does that make any sense?

It's only the OS Dry that you'd be covering up the stay-dry layer.  If you really want a stay-dry barrier right next to baby's skin, just buy some cheap fleece and cut to desired shape.  You can use that on the top (next to baby) over whatever prefold, Sanyds, liners, OS etc. combination you might choose to use.

As well, no one ever said that you cannot use a booster/absorbent liner of any sort on the outside of the diaper (between the cover and outside of the diaper).  Therefore if you already have some MEOS you can keep the stay dry feature AND have additional absorbency.
