  Another bamboo flaw question (operaame)

I'm sorry to beat a dead horse, but I am trying to figure out if I have a problem, and I am not quite clear what the flaw with the bamboo is...

I recently purchased 6 small bamboo Sandy's washed 3 times, but not used - from Ebay.  The only ME bamboo I had prior to this purchase was a OS, which is doing well so far.  Well, the Sandy's edges are fraying between the overcast stitching - so this is actually from the three washes, not having even been worn.  Does this sound like the typical problem?  If so, I am concerned about the fact that I purchased them from someone off of Ebay.  What do you all think?  Thanks so much for you thoughts!

Some of mine have fraying on them.  I have not seen a problem.  It really did not affect the diaper so far and I have had them since June.

I ordered 13 Large Sandy's Bamboo initially and 1 month later, I ordered another 13. I hadn't noticed the fraying until I got brand new unwashed ones again. Until about 10 or so washes, I could always tell the first batch from the second. But now they all look the same. I think it's probably normal, and I'd venture to guess that the cotton Sandy's fray the same way(I don't actually have any cotton Sandy's though, so maybe another mama could answer that question). Since it's surging and not binding, I just assumed the fraying was normal on the Sandy's.
Cheers!

Yup, I've experienced that kind of thing on various cotton diapers over the years. I remember the first time it happened with brand new Kissaluvs I had, I emailed the store I got them from and the lady called to explain it to me. She said it was just normal loose fibers that were 'trapped' in the serging but that it wasn't anything coming undone or anything like that... I used them for a long time after that and they were fine.

The only real problem with the bamboo is the binding on the One-Size (and we don't even know if that problem was related to the bamboo or some other fabric in the binding like the elastic or something like that). There's been grumblings about bamboo not being a durable fabric but I've neither seen nor heard anything to indicate that...

Karen.

Thanks Karen!  Yeah, makes sense.  Anything I have ever serged has had the same issues through a few washings.  I was just worried I had gotten into some of the bamboo issues.  I feel nice and relieved now!  thanks again!

Hi Karen,

Thanks for your input regarding the serging issue that you had on your Kissaluvs diapers. I ordered one bamboo Sandy just to see how small it is and to determine whether or not I want to order more for the little one that I'm expecting. I too was concerned after washing my bamboo dipe I few times only to find a bunch of fraying on it. I bought some unbleached small Sandy's which did not fray throughout the duration of 6 months of use, so the fraying really concerned me. I'm relieved to hear that though your diapers also had some fraying, that it withstood its course of use. Phew! Now I'm on the fence as to whether or not I'd want to order more! :0)
