I have baby#2 on the way in February. I currently have a toddler who will most likely not be potty trained by then. What are the essentials do you suggest that I carry in my diaper bag for outings for two babies? I'm thinking of outings for maybe 1-3 hours. I'd like to carry a diaper bag which will be light on my shoulders, yet still have the essentials to cloth diaper two kids. FYI, I use cloth wipes, and I plan to breast feed. I'm open to carrying OS diapers, AIO diapers or prefolds. I just want something compact, efficient, and easy. What are your key essentials for short outings?
What type of diaper bag would you suggest for two kids while using cloth dipes? I'd like one that is stylish, yet functional if you are able to recommend any. Thanks! |

| I don't know about stylish, but a backpack is very functional: keeps both arms free and provides pockets for organization. Mine has mesh side pockets for my water bottle and LO's sippy cup. |

Mine is not orange it is Grey. It was expensive but it great. It has lasted 2 years with 2 kids. I like the mommy side, for my stuff) and the pockets. Plus the cooler side for bottles and sippycups.
I also have a buggy bagg and it can double as a diaper bag when you go shopping and don't want the whole backpack to go with you.

I use a Large Timbuk2 messenger bag. Inside I keep 4 Mother-ease 1 size cloth dipes, cloth wipes pre-moistened in a ziplock baggie, wetbag, a change of baby clothes, snacks, toys, an extra jacket for baby, restaurant highchair cover, 2 bibs, a sippy of water, and a patemm pad for changing him on those questionable changing tables. I love my Timbuk2 bag and wouldn't change it for the world! I used to use an x-small Timbuk2 bag for my purse(okay, my hubby calls it my "satchel") and my love of that bag made the decision to use a Timbuk2 bag for a diaper bag a no-brainer! I HATE shoulder bags! Oh yeah, congrats on baby! Cheers! |

I also use a back pack. It has two zippered main compartments and a front area for the wallet, etc. I recently ended up with a different pack because the movers took my normal one, and it has two mesh pockets on the sides that I've found useful for carrying a sippy cup for each child. I have a large ziploc that I have loaded with a folded-up changing mat, one of those small plastic containers for disposable wipes (I will use cloth wipes if I think about it ahead of time, but these are my fall-back and also just handy to have for wiping restaurant table, etc), a few bread bags, and two emergency disposables (which are getting ratty because they never get used). I just take this ziploc out of my backpack and put it into a smaller bag for church nursery so they have the option of using a disposable if they want to. That ziploc is so beat-up because it just moves around no matter what bag I use, but it has lasted over three years now! I also liked it for plane travel because my backpack was so loaded up with everything else that it was nice to just grab that out for changes on the plane. Then I just take however many diapers I think I'll need (OS with a fleece already inside) loose in the backpack. Dirties go in the separate compartment, tied into a breadbag. Obviously with two in diapers you'll need to take more diapers, but not much else needs to be duplicated, esp. if you are breast-feeding. Just think of how much space you'll save not always needing to pack three changes of clothes for baby (like I did when DS#1 was in disposables because I thought it would be too hard to CD on outings!). :-)
Now my DS#1 is PTed an DS#2 is a toddler and not going through as many diapers, but my backpack also holds all my grocery bags to reuse, a rolled-up emergency "highchair" harness, a portable potty-seat, granola bars, pens, sunblock . . . Sometimes I do feel like a bit of a turtle! :-) |
