question ME One size dry diapers not fitting my 25 lb child (bellarella)
Posted: 2:57:10 pm on 9/26/2008 Modified: Never

Hi all,
Wondering if I just need to buy larger diapers.  My daughter is 25 lbs.  We use the one size dry diapers and love them, but are finding that to close the two outermost snaps on each side around her tum, it is getting a bit snug.  If I snap just the one outermost snap on each side, it leaves the sharp part of a snap exposed to her skin (does that make sense?).  Maybe we could just turn them inside out and snap from the inside, but then we don't get the dry benefit (and it doesn't seem like that's how they are meant to go anyway).  Perhaps someone at Mother-Ease has a solution to this.  The website says they are supposed to fit up to 35 lbs. and my kiddo is not a particular chunker, so I'm a bit confused.

ME makes extender tabs, but you have to call or email them to get them. That way, no snaps will be exposed to your daughter's belly and you won't have to flip them inside out and loose the Stay-dry feature. The extender tabs come in pairs, 1 for each side.
HTH.
Cheers!

Consider that even though it seems snug it's not a definite that she will outgrow them before potty training. By 12-18 months kids stop growing chunkier and grow taller. There's a good chance her waist size won't change all that much as she grows taller with age.

You should consider trying to snap just one snap on one or even both sides. Many of us have done so without hurting our little ones skin so it's worth a shot. It never even made the slightest mark on my girls....

Baring that, the extenders are a good solution. I wish ME would advertise their existence a little more...

Karen.

I went to snapping one snap on each side for a while and never had marking issues on the DS, either.  I was looking into extenders, too (and never knew ME made them) but didn't end up needing them.  We did end up going back to two snaps except when boosted, as he did slim out a smidge.  He was able to wear the OS to 34 lbs, when he PTed.

I agree about ME advertising the existence of some things a little more.  Okay, colored diapers and new cover prints, nice but not essential, but something that could help someone keep their kiddo in these wonderful diapers a while longer, or bridge a chunky stage?  This would be very helpful!

Well that is really good to know that they make extenders. I love the one-size; infact it was the bulk of my son's stash, but he outgrew them and think I sold them when he was around 30lbs.  So I need more dipes now for dd and was thinking of getting the Sandy's mostly b/c I figured they'd fit longer.  Hmmmm, now maybe I'll stick more with the one-size. Thanks for mentioning this!

You don't happen to know how much the extenders are?  I would be curious of the price vs. getting toddle ease.

For pricing, I'd call ME. It might be a quantity thing. I have some and they're basically an oblong piece of terry about 3" long,  surged around the outside to prevent fraying with a row of six snaps. You get one for each side. It's something to look into anyway. Get more use out of the diapers you already have.
Cheers!

Would you basically need a set for each diaper, or can you reuse them?  Depends on whether they get wet or not?

Exactly. 1 set per diaper. So it depends on if they get wet or soiled to reuse them. Or if you don't need that much more space for fit, maybe just 1 on 1 side. Each extender is 3". That's an extra 4-6" of waist if you use both on the outer snaps. That's alot of space!
