Has anyone made wool longies?  DO you have to lanolin them?  What is the purpose?

I found a neat website

I looked into them since it's so hard to find jeans or khakis that fit over cloth dipes. The wool naturally wicks away moisture and replaces a traditional waterproof cover. You have to lanolize them to keep them wicking and not just plain old leaking. So what baby sits on isn't wet or soiled. So basically you just buy shirts to go with all your longies/shorties as they are outerwear. Right now we just stuck with ME covers since we already had his fall/winter overalls for this year. But maybe next year...there are some cute WAHM ones out there.

Thanks.  I actually made one yesterday.  I am not the best sewer but it was pretty easy.

really? Was it hard or take long? How did you decide what kind of wool to use? I know vertually nothing about knitting, is there a tightness of weave standard? There's a market out there for wool longies/shorties, if it wasn't too terribly difficult or time consuming, you could suppliment your income by making them to order. I know I'd be interested next spring for shorties. And thereafter as the season's dictate.

No.  I actually recycled a sweater.  It was a nice 100% wool one (bannanarepublic).  But I have to fix it.  I found that pattern and it was not too hard with my sewing machine.  I am not a good sewer but it was not hard really.  I think it took me a few hours.  Now I have to fix it to size.  I am not sure about making them to sell.  i have a hard time selling anything.  I could not even sell my baby stuff.  I gave it and still give it all away.  But It is a good idea.  Maybe I could make them for cost or who knows, I could think about it.  I still have to figure out the lanolin.  Oh and my 6 year old wants a pair of pants just like them for PJs.  How funny is that?
