Leaks with my super pooper (WestCoastGirl)
Posted: 3:14:11 pm on 10/7/2008 Modified: Never

My DS is 5 months old and we have been using small bamboo Sandies with med AF covers since 3.5 months.  I have been very happy with them as they were the only dipe that would contain his pooplosions...until recently.  Now that DS is "saving up" and only having a BM once or twice a day we are once again having pooplosions.  The leaks are either up the back or out of of the leg holes.  I've tried doing up the snaps one setting tighter but then he gets red marks from the elastics.  I'm so frustrated as I thought I had finally found a leak free diaper.  Any suggestions ladies? TIA.

How much does your DS weigh?  Is he getting anywhere close to the upper range for the S Sandys?
I had a super-pooper who would explode out of any disposable, and found ME fantastic.  I still did have the occasional leak, though, so maybe some kids can overwhelm any diaper.
One thing that I did find was that I had to move him out of the S Sandys earlier than the suggested weight.  It's been a while now, but I think that I left them behind somewhere around 17 or 18 lbs because after 4.5 months of no leaks, suddenly he was leaking up the back.  They still fit fine, and were not even on the last setting, if I remember correctly, but suddenly those leaks, and I just felt like maybe they were a smidge too low in the rise to contain things.
I know that that is not the usual experience with the S Sandys (my DS#2 could wear them until over 20 lbs, and most people find this).
I used mostly OS and wasn't having those leaks with them, and when I started using the L Sandys a bit before 20 lbs, no leaks with them either.   Which diaper fits best exactly when can really depend on the build of your baby.
I know that's not really specific advice, except perhaps if DS is chunk to move him to a bigger diaper.

Thanks for the suggestions.  My DS isn't big - he's almost 16 lbs.  He is sort of long and skinny, especially in the hips.  Maybe he is just at one end of the spectrum in terms of blowouts and nothing will contain them all. Oh well, he'll be starting solids in a few weeks so I'm thinking that will make a difference.

I think the PP has a good point.  Maybe he is too long for the small Sandy's.  I know if DS poops in his Organic Sandy it will come out the back forsure but if in the bamboo, it is just below the waist.  He is short and chunky, but there is a rise difference in the 2 of them and he is 22 months old.  Good luck.
