  Liners and Mini-Shower Question (KariJenk)

I'm checking out the cloth diapers, and I've read that with a newborn the liners aren't needed at first.

BUT...as things progress, What's The Difference or Opinions on Stay Dry Liners vs. Snap In Liners? I'm planning on using OS. I'm not even exactly sure how the Snap In Liners work if you put several in the diaper. Do they all snap?? Confused and seeking answers.

As for a Shower Attachment to the toilet, any suggestions on what type to get from those with experience??

One More....Velcro vs. Snap Air Cover???

Thank you so much...wise cloth diapering women. Hopefully, one day I'll understand it all too.

Liners:
I believe the Stay dry and the regular liners absorb the same amount.  The difference is the Stay dry wicks the moisture away from baby's skin so s/he is comfortable longer [like at night].  I have found the Stay Dry stain easily because they aren't cotton topped [and the polyester doesn't "sun out" very well].  The regular cotton liners have worked just fine, though we don't use them often [currently as doublers in our prefolds overnight and plan to use as pocket stuffers].  Regarding WHEN to use them... If you are on the folded over newborn setting on the MEOS, then you can't snap in the liner, but you could just "lay" it in, also folded down.  For young babies, however, we found the MEOS hold alot on their own and the addition of a liner bulk up the dipe too much.  Once you're at the medium to large snap settings, you really only need one liner, but can "lay" in another if you really need the absorbency [beware, adding even more liners will create gaps in the elastic around the legs]. I've never seen a newborn pee more than 20 oz [13oz dipe+7oz liner], although I have seen my hubby overfill a 32oz cup [don't ask, it was an emergency].  Point being, the liners don't snap into the newborn configuration nor to eachother, but you don't need to stack them anyway.

Sprayer:
We have the Bum Genius diaper sprayer.  Could not diaper without it.  Even my husband is getting closer to hosing off the poops [he claims he has a "weak stomach"].  The BF poop rinses off, and any water that gets absorbed by the diaper further loosens the stains until wash day [we do 2x/wk].  Also the extra water in the dipe makes the diapers heavier and tricks our front load washer to use more water. If you haven't already used a $10 off coup for DiapersDotCom, that's a good way to get a deal AND free shipping.  I've seen homemade versions on ebay and elsewhere, but the BG version is nice chrome and metal connections [where it counts].  You can adjust the pressure [from off to full blast! We go about 1/4 the way] and we've not had any leaks along the entire thing.  It's also less conspicuous than a "dunking bucket".

Velcro/Snap:
I love, love love our hook and loop Bummis and ImseVimse.  They offer unlimited customization.  BUT baby has [unintentionally?] been pulling them apart before I can get his pants on.  He has never unsnapped an Air Flow Cover.  There is SOME customization with snaps.  AFs have 2 rows of snaps so we do the tightest snap for the waist and the medium snap at the leg holes for his chunky thighs.  Note that if your stash includes prefolds, snap covers can be too loose and the prefolds may shift--velcro is better in that case.  Over MEOS and other fitteds, you can use either type, it's your preference.  Based on our experience, I recommend ME AFcovers over the MEOSs because they are a perfect fit [Bummis smalls are too small, Bummis Meds are barely big enough, Imse Vimse are too narrow in the crotch, even the styles with gussets].

It all seems simple to me now, but I remember a year ago doing my research, it was all overwhelming.  This is a great forum to get varied feedback.  Hope that helps [sorry for typos, I'm nursing at keyboard!]

I love the airflow covers... because they never leak, the child can't get them off, and you can even snap them up before hand, and put them on like pants if you have a squirmy child.  I have some Ricki's around for quicker changes, but find they leak sometimes.

I use the Mini-shower (http://www.minishower.com/).  I love use the sprayer and find it now possible to do a dry pail without too much staining and smell.  Mine does leak a little bit sometimes... not sure why, but it does work well besides that.

I use the snap in liners with a fleece liner on top that I cut out (no sewing).  I like the snap ins because you can snap them all in after laundry day and they are ready to go at change time.
Good luck!

Sprayer:  I recommend getting a diaper sprayer that attaches to your sink, rather than the toilet. That way you can use it for other purposes, such as post-partum peri-care or pregnancy/delivery hemorrhoid care.  Diaper sprayers are actually hand-held bidets sold under special marketing.  If you get the sink attachment then you can use warm water to gently clean the tender parts of your body, whereas with the toilet attachment, you'd only get freezing cold water.  The hose sent with most sprayers is super long, so distance between the sink and the toilet is not a problem per se.  However, it could be annoying if the sink were across the room (my bathrooms aren't big enough to have that problem).

By the way, you won't need to spray your newborn's diaper as long as s/he is exclusively breast fed (EBF), because EBF bms will dissolve completely in the wash.  And don't worry, you'll become a cloth diaper queen soon!

I use the Bum Genius diaper sprayer too. I BF and formula supp. The poop really sticks to the terry of the OS, and cloth diapering without the BG would be a real drag!
