| I noticed the question regarding the organic mama pads and wondered if anyone had tried the diva cup? If not, you should! I used it for around 8 months before I got pregnant again and, I will tell you what, I will never go back! I would love to hear others' opinions~ |

Love love love mine too! Well actually I've only used the Diva for one cycle now but before that I had a Keeper that I've used for 6+ years (well other than my 22 month break when I had the twins) and I adored it!! I only switched to the Diva because I can't find my Keeper (I suspect the girls found it after I had washed it and left it to dry on the bathroom counter and they must have flushed it down the toilet!!!). I love the Diva just as much... I would never go back to tampons or disposable pads in a million years!

| I use the mooncup (well, not right now since I'm pregnant with #2) and I love it!! I will never go back to tampons!! |
|
|
|
| I've tried both the diva and the keeper and loved both. I haven't used one since before I was pregnant and was wondering if I really need to get the one for women who have had a baby or if I could still use the one I have. I guess I will have to try it out to see...either way, it is so worth it money wise and ecologically friendly too! |

Hi Ladies! I was the poster asking about the organic cotton Mama pads. I am so glad this thread has been started as I was considering a Diva Cup as well.
I am uncertain what to do as I have no idea what kind of flow I will have. I have a condition where I do not menstruate (unless on fertility drugs..thus my 2 babies!). I will soon begin a new treatment (drugs) that will induce a period every 3 months. Anyone have anything similar? Was your period super heavy? I am guessing it is a woman-to-woman thing and different for each, but I am hoping someone might have some ideas/support?
Thanks! |

| Just to give a different opinion... I tried the Diva cup and I couldn't do it. I wasn't comfortable and it always felt like I was going to lose it. Granted, that was before I had my baby and I used the smaller size (for under 30 years old) but I was close to 30, so maybe I would have been fine with the bigger size, I don't know... |

Just an fyi, for anyone considering a Diva Cup. <A href="http://www.iherb.com/">www.iherb.com</A> has them for an amazing price. I think it's something like $18.99 plus shipping (which even to Canada was only $3). Makes taking that leap much less scary...
And for what it's worth, my Keeper *always* sits so low that at first I thought it would fall out. It never does and it never leaks (well, sometimes a few drops but I had the same issue with tampons). I think menstrual cups just 'sit' differently for different women. For both the Keeper and the Diva Cup I had to cut the stem off completly, any less and it was poking me in not fun places! For some women it just sits really really low... Now, if you're not comfortable with it, then you're not, but I just wanted to mention that it sitting really low isn't necessarily a problem. The whole concept (inserting/removing especially) does take some getting used to and you do have to have a certain comfort level with your own body, but once you get used to it, it's really liberating!

| Thanks for the tips, Karen... I kept thinking that I should try it again some day, with the bigger size... I may do it now! |

| I am certainly not an expert, but I know that learning how to insert it correctly is the key to comfort and having a good seal. It is just the best thing in the world to not have to worry about those tampons, and the waste and the trash smell, etc, etc. I started after I had my first. I would imagine the "after having a baby" size is important. And I will also mention that my flow is HEAVY for the first few days. In fact, about 2 ounces every 30 minutes to and hour. and I still never leaked more than a droplet on those heaviest days. I am so glad everyone loves theirs so much! I was afraid to push the subject! I would highly recommend the diva cup to cloth or disposable any day! Haven't tried any of the others, but I am sure they work well, too! |

| I've heard there is a disposable version of the cup. I thought I might try the disposable one to see if I like it, then switch over to the real deal. Anybody every try a disposable one? Would it give me a good idea for the diva? Mostly thinking the disposable would be a cheaper way to try it. |
|

Never heard of the disposable kind, but it seems like it would defeat the purpose a little. Ok - I just did a search on it and found "Instead." It was just a quick search, so there may be more out there. The instead is not shaped anything like the diva or the keeper. I got my diva cup for under $20. I think it was around $18 (US) with shipping, which is a good deal. Here's the link to "instead." <http://www.softcup.com/index.php> It is made of polyethylene, which is mostly considered a safer plastic. Since I haven't tried the Instead, I don't know anything about it. My interest was peaked because it says you can be "frisky" while using it because it sits pretty high. That is not the case with the diva cup. Being a big environmentalist, I am not keen on anything disposable, however. To me, that is a major drawback. |

Thanks to operaame for the info comparing the disposables to reusables. I can see that the fit is so different that trying the disposables won't give me any clue on whether I'll like the reusables. And to karenc for the lead on a low-price Diva cup. I've never seen them listed for less than $32+ shipping, so that's a 33% savings. And it makes the experiment/switch more affordable. I am seriously close to buying one online, but I have two quick questions first.
Question 1: Is there a difference between the Diva cup and the silicone version of the Keeper (called the Moon cup)? The two "look" the same online.
Question 2: Do I need a special wash for cleaning the cup? I've seen the Diva wash for sale, but I'm wondering if I can use regular hand soap, dish soap, or baby wash (burt's bees). |
|
|
|
I just use a mild soap, like the burt's bees (which I LOVE using on my little girl! Smells so good!)
As for the Diva cup price - ugh! I am shocked at $32.
http://www.southcoastshopping.com/si/10073.html $16.89
http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?c=1&pid=-2228795031505824959&at=0 $18.99 (flat rate shipping of $1.99)
I just googled "diva cup sales" and "diva cup" and found these (and many more). Without going back, I don't remember the link Karen provided, but I know it was a good deal as well. If you are in Canada and run into shipping over-charges, I can order it for you and send for next to nothing. It only weighs a couple of ounces. No problem!

I too have been going back and forth on trying the Diva cup. I looked at the iherb website and the coupon code Karen gave in a previous post and if you enter it it still works, but I did not procees any order yet as I am still iffy. Here is the code KAS985. Hope that helps. It is to save $5.00 which makes it $13.99 and then shipping in US was $1.50 for my zip but it says they have a flat rate of $1.99. I may order it tonight after DH gets home. We go over every purchase (both of ours) if we can. Part of a good budget.
Good luck. |

Sahm22 here again. I got my cup in 2 days. I got my time 3 days early. I actually tried it twice. I am nervous as the directions scared me a little when it says what to do if it goes too high. Yipes. It took 2 attempts to put it in correctly the first time and I could not feel it. I kept going back to the restroom to see if it moved up and it did not. And it was actually weird to see how much you fill the cup and how long it takes. So girls, if you questioned it, here it is, you really can not feel it. This is from an anti- tampon lady. It does not go in that far. Wow. I like it a lot and I got it for under $16.00. Thanks ladies.

| Awesome news! So glad it worked for you! Just remember, even if it were to go too high, we have muscles in there to push it back down! No worries! |

Mine arrived the other day. Now I just have to wait!
I used iHerb and it arrived in Ottawa, Canada in 14 days. Good price. |

Just a quick question It might be a little gross but was wondering. What if when you bleed(very heavy) and you get a lot of blood clots(I know it's gross)? I can't use tampons for that reason don't want to keep it up there. It happens every period and some are quite large(i do have medical problems the doctor is trying to figure out) Would the diva cup be an option?

| I wondered the same thing and i can not use tampons either because all my stuff is too low and it touches (I even carry my babies low). This sits lower and is not worn as a tamplon. But I had emptied after 2 hours. It was half full and It did have clots in it. The paper said an average flow was 2-4 oz per cycle and the cup holds 2 oz. I am a very heavy flower and it confirmed it. I was unable to try the entire cycle because i sub at the daycare and was worried I it would sneek up but at home it did not move. It stayed in place. It was so easy to put in and so easy to get out. It was like there was no cycle. I would try it and I spent $15.00 including S&H. The code is above. I got it at iherb.com. |
