Hey Mamas! I'm thinking of buying some sandy's diapers, but am not sure if i should get small or large. My son is a peanut, he's a year, and barely 20 pds. I tried a bamboo small on him today, and it fit really well, i could even do it up on the smallest setting (tight). My questions are this: Should i get him small or large? He doesnt grow fast, and i dont know how much bigger the larges are, but dont want to buy all new again in a couple of months. Also, do the different fabrics fit the same? LIke will a cotton one fit the same as the bamboo did? Thanks so much ladies! Kate |

| My daughter is around 22 pounds and has been wearing both the small and large Sandy's since around 18 pounds. I am sure it depends on how he is built. I like the smalls on her because they are smaller and trimmer, but if I had to buy one size, considering economy and all, I would buy the larges, because they will last. He more than likely will not stay at 20 pounds before potty training. How do the babies on the side of the family his smallness comes from tend to grow? Keep in mind that the small Sandy's are meant to be worn up to 20 pounds. I have found you can stretch all the weight limits on ME. Hope I haven't confused you more! |

Thanks for the reply mama! Well, his older sisters were all 20 pds at 1 yr, and maybe 22-23 pds at 2 yrs, when the pl. My kids do not grow fast at all, and we are all very thin/slender ppl, so i dont ever expect him to get chunky or anything lol. If anything he'll get taller, and a tiny bit wider. Now what age he potty learns at, well, thats another matter all together haha. I was hoping to just keep him in smalls (if that is what i can get a good deal on) and just use doublers for extra absorbancy. Any more input is greatly appreiciated. |

| Don't forget that if the old saying is true, your boy is likely to potty train at a later age than his sisters... At least that's what people say (can't speak from experience, my DS is only 15 months). Take that in consideration when trying to guess if he will still fit in Small Sandy's by then... |

I would try just one large just to see for yourself how it fits. It might not as big as you may think. I know my twins fit in both for several months. We had 36 smalls for them and only 12 were actually ours (the other were borrowed from my sister-in-law). When my niece got old enough to wear the smalls we gave them back and started using the larges to supplement the few smalls we still had left. They both fit just fine although of course the smalls were a bit trimmer...
You can get a trial pack with the large Sandy's, a liner and a cover for around $20 tax and shipping included. And worse comes to worse you can always sell it if it really doesn't fit.
A couple things to consider.... First, if you use the smalls with liners that will affect greatly how they fit. So even if they fit ok during the day, if you stuff them with a couple liners at night, that might just enough to put them over the edge so to speak.
Another thing is how long it will take before your little one is dry at night. Even if he's daytime dry within the next year or so, how long will it be before he's dry at night.
And yet another, is wether the absorbancy of the smalls will remain enough even when he's an older toddler. I'm not saying it won't, that probably varies widely. But for my girls I doubt it would have been enough as they got past 2-2.5 since they would almost totally soak even a large when they'd pee!!
You can always get mostly smalls and then a few larges to use at night (or any other time you need extra absorbancy or the space for a liner or two...). Plus then you could just keep using those few for nighttime after he's daytime dry...
And yet another thought... Have you considered the One-Size? I've always prefered the Sandy's myself but maybe for someone in your situation it might be a perfect compromise. They would offer a diaper that would fit well now AND in a year...

Oh, and to answer your question about different fabrics. Generally speaking, yes they all about fit the same with some small variances due to different amounts of 'stretch' in different fabrics. I think most people find that the organic cotton diapers tend to fit a bit bigger than regular cotton since it doesn't have any polyester in it (polyester tends to add more stretch to a diaper).

I have a couple of the one size, and, i hate to say it, i really don't like them. We go coverless alot (and use wool longies exclusively, and i find that they start to fold over (does that make sense?) with him walking around. Plus, we are still doing them up on almost the smallest setting (cross snapped) I'm hoping he pl like his sisters (fingers crossed), they were both dry through the night for months before we pl during the day, which was right around their second bdays. I'm impatient lol, and i may have a really good deal on small sandy's, and havent yet found any large, none of our other diapers are working for us, so even though i havent sold them yet, i really hate using them. Thanks! |

Wow, that's amazing!! Lucky you!! LOL!
Well, in that case, maybe give one Large a shot if you can just to be sure... Although it does sound like he's small enough that they may well work, especially considering the family history of early training day and night...

Yeah i really have been lucky, i'll probably have a completely different experience this time lol, he's a more needy child, soo..... Yeah i really have no idea what to do haha. I think if it comes down to it, if i'm buying new i'll get larges, if i can get a good deal on some, i'll take what size i can get lol Thanks so much! Kate |

My first son was a little squirt, like you say. He never got out of size 2 posies. He pl at the average age of 2(I always feel boys get an unfair bad rap at pl) He is 8 years old now and still is mr. Skinny, wearing a wopping size 4 undies! If you know baby will more than likely stay little, I say just stick with the smalls. Not that it would hurt anything to buy n try a large. Some kids are just different than your "average" kiddo. I happen to have had both ends of the spectrum with my had-to-wait-til-18 months old-to-face-forward-at-20 pounds-son, and an out-grew-all-max-weight-limits-on-convertible-car-seats-at-10 months old son. Weird..... Anyway, I say stick with what your instincts tell you. Cheers! |
