  Fleece liners? (nakedbabytoes)

Howdy ladies!
My hunk of chunk boy is 4 days shy of 1 year old now. He is quite the pee-er! We use Large Sandy's and 3 liners, he is soaked in the morning. Not his clothes, because ME has awesome AF covers! But he maxes out the absorbency that his Sandy's and 3 liners have to offer. His skin is so wet and I'd like to pull some of that away. I tried buying stay-dry liners from a mama on here and that went badly. So now I'm poor and still have a wet skin issue. He's not rashy, but I think he'd like to feel dryer. Or, at least I would! Is there a special kind of fleece I should buy? Does it need to be sewn along the edges to prevent unraveling? Do I wash them with the diapers? With the covers? Do I cut them the same size as his liners? Same shape as his liners or diapers?
Maybe I should have paid more attention in Home Ec class????
Explain it to me like I'm dumb, 'cause I am! But at least I'm smart enough to know who to ask.....
Help is appreciated!
Cheers!

I just bought white fleece at Walmart and cut them the same size as the liners.  They work great.  i have to feel the diaper to see if he is wet.  (We are starting to have dry diapers and some drenched diapers) No sewing needed.  They wash well and air dry fast.

Fleece liners are super easy. Just get any old fleece (old fleece blankets work great), just as long as it's not waterproofed for outerwear (but this isn't something you're likely to just stumble upon anyway so I wouldn't worry about it). Cut it to whatever size/shape you want, shaped like the diaper or the liner, whatever strikes your fancy. No sewing needed because fleece doesn't unravel. Then just wash with diapers... Couldn't be easier...

Okay, so I've bought 2 remnants of fleece and have yet to try them. I am worried that the fleece I bought is wrong(hence, the second purchase of fleece). When I hold the fabric under the tap and put a little water on it, the water just sits there. Isn't it supposed to go right through it due to the larger holes between the weave? I tried both sides of each one and it acts the same way. If the water doesn't go through, won't it just run out the sides? So if my son pees at night, won't it completely miss the liners and soak his diaper? We've always had great luck with our covers so I'm not worried about him leaking out but I had thought the fleece liners act like a semi-permeable barrier(let it go through, but not come back up). So how does it work then? I haven't cut mine up yet since I am so confused! I know people use them and love them. Please help me.....

That's pretty normal for fleece actually. Which is why pocket diapers are particularly prone to build-up and repelling.

Unless there's a really bad build-up on the fleece liquid will pass through when it's in the diaper because of pressure from your little ones skin - doesn't take much, essentially just touching will do it. You can try it for yourself just by laying the fleece against a clean diaper (or towel, whatever...). Drip some water on it (running from the tap will probably be a little too much water at one time) and then just run your finger through the sitting water, you should see it start to go through the fleece. Even just the 'pressure' from the fabric underneath should help 'pull' the liquid through.

Worse comes to worse, even if the liquid doesn't go through very well while in the diaper, it will just run off the fleece and into the diaper and still stay pretty dry. So pee is still not likely to lay against baby's skin or anything. And as long as the liners don't entirely stick out of the diaper then it shouldn't cause leaks as the diaper will have a chance to 'catch' it first. But that's unlikely to happen anyway...

Karen.

Thanks! It was the pressure factor that I was missing. 3 days now with fleece at night and his skin in the am is bone dry but his diaper is soaked. Just what I was looking for! Thanks for assuring me that I wasn't ruining a potential cozy warm fleece blanket for liners that were doomed to failure. I just needed a hand to hold as I jumped off that ledge. Thanks Karen!
