Anyone Tried Bac Out? (Lona E)

I am an avid cloth diaperer and am on my 2nd child but am frustrated with the smell of my diapers and the rash my son has been getting.  I have washed numerous times with hot water and vinegar.  I no longer use tea tree oil as have found some articles suggesting it might lead to early breast development.  I don't think any of this has been substantiated but I am not comfortable using it.

I found this link and I am wondering if anyone has used or had success with the bac out product?

I am tired of running my washing machine none stop trying to fix this so I am hoping a product like this might help.  I have a font loader HE machine which I am sure is not helping.  I wet pail and very little soap.  I just switched from Tide to a baby soap which seems to be helping a little.

Please help me.  My son's pants aren't staying up in his disposables.

Has Anyone Tried OxiClean? (Lona E)

I am now considering trying Oxiclean to get rid of the build up and smell problem.  Has anyone tried or had any luck with this?

Thanks,

Lona E

The times that I've had huge stink problems have been with Tide (combined with my in-laws' horrid water).  I would wonder about a baby detergent, as they are often more like soaps than detergents, and therefore a bit more prone to build-up (soap scum) and/or don't do as good a job with getting things clean.  They can also contain some fabric softener (though probably not all do).
I know I've read about Oxiclean previously here--have you tried doing a search on the term?  I don't know if it will solve build-up problems, but I know that some people use it fairly regularly.  I believe that it releases hydrogen peroxide, basically, and I think it has some washing soda in it?

For what it's worth, our worst stink issues were with a top-loader, so it's not just front-loaders.  I used a front-loader with store detergent for four years in the UK with no real issues that I didn't bring on myself.  Moving back to the US, I've had to figure things out all over again.  I have no idea why these front-loaders should be different.  I've finally hit on what seems to be a good arrangement for us:  dry pail, pre-wash, sanitary heavy wash with about a teaspoon of Country Save, extra wash (figured it was more effective than an extra rinse).  I don't like having to throw in the extra wash, but it seems to be helping, and I wash our other loads on cold as much as possible to assuage my energy conscience.

I had used Oxyclean on my MEOS for the first 5 months that I CD. I had great results, they always smelled fresh & clean, and always got out poo stains, no matter what my son ate! I liked it alot, and really miss it now that we don't use it anymore. I stopped using it because there was alot of concern floating around about the durability of bamboo and cleaning agents reacting with urine, causing breakdown of fabric. Since we had just switched to bamboo Sandy's, I wanted to go back to "nature" and clean as gently as possible. So we just use soapnuts now, with vinegar in the rinse. And it works fine, but for poo streaks, I do miss the Oxyclean. And yes, the diapers always smelled great! But we don't have an odor issue now either. Give it a try and see if it works for you. We liked it. We just choose not to use it now. Just a personal decision.

I've also used OxyClean, or rather Oxy-Pro a generic version.  I bought it because it was cheaper but then I read that the generic versions usually have less additives and more of the active ingredient.  When my diapers are getting a bit smelly I do a long hot soak with a scoop of Oxy and a bit of detergent, then a hot wash cycle with no detergent and extra cold rinses.  I do this every month or so with my pocket diapers, maybe 2-3 months with MEOS since they're less prone to stinkies.

Thanks for the help.  I am going to give OxiClean a try.
