Hey there! I had a water birth 2.5 mos ago-- you will love it! It was a big difference for me as well- being induced and in a hospital with an IV last time. Let me know if you have any questions about it, it's still very fresh in my mind!!
Good luck, I'm sure everything will be perfect for you! |

| So awesome to have the encouragement! Thank you! Our pool has been blown up and ready (because of a false alarm) in the corner for a couple of weeks. I am really looking forward to her birthday! I have been practicing hypnobirthing. I know that the water, whether in a river, ocean, lake, stream, fountain, or bath is incredibly soothing for me. I love to be near it and in it. So, it just seemed like the most organic choice. Once I also was reminded in my hypnobirthing book about the sympathetic nervous system and how it plays a major role in causing pain due to dilation and muscle contraction, etc., it just made perfect sense. I really believe this birth can be done with no pain and absolute joy and bliss! I can't wait to greet her and invite her into that warmth. I was induced as well last time, in addition to having an epidural and being on IVs and flat on my back for 14 plus hours. The whole experience felt like it went against everything in me. I wish I had not let fear rule my decision making. Was your husband in the pool with you? If you don't mind my asking, in which position did you end up giving birth? Were you in the bath tub or did you use a pool? Congratulations on your new little sweetie, and thank you so much for writing to me. I feel so excited and encouraged! |

Thank you, and you are so very welcome! I think with the first baby, I know I just let the doctors and nurses tell me what to do, cause I didnt know any better. Then, with other babies, you know what you didnt like, and what you want to change. You have a much stronger opinion the next time.
I gave birth at a birthing center here in Savannah, in a jacuzzi tub. My hubby could have been in the tub with me, but I really wanted it video taped, and he was the only one who could do it. So, he kneeled next to me. I was in the regular soaking in the tub position. I kept slipping down, and I was given the choice to stay in or get out, or change positions, but I was so hard into it I didnt want to move! When you begin to push you have to keep your bottom completely in the water, so they had to keep reminding me of that. Contractions were not as bad in the warm water. My midwife used this analogy and she was right- you know how when you soak your feet and hands your cuticles soften and you can push them back easier, well that's what happens to your bottom too. My first son was 5 lbs 9 oz and I had to get 2 stitches... this baby was 8 lbs 11 oz and I only tore on my original scar and no more. But with all the burning anyway, you cant feel a tear! One thing I remembered that was so helpful in dealing with labor, was STAY ON YOUR FEET! I found contractions SO much harder to deal with laying down! I ended up walking or standing for my whole labor, which was only 4 hrs, before I got in the tub during transition.
