The lint trapped at my balding spots is noticeably larger than what is in the rest of my diapers. Really big thick hard chunks of it. |

The more lint actually makes sense really. If your diapers are balding/wearing really thin, then that means that the fabric has gradually lost more and more of the fibers that make up the entire fabric. The more the diapers wear, the more fibers are lost, the more there is to end up trapped in corners of the diapers....
I do agree with ME that it's a normal thing, but it's just the accelerated rate at which this is all happening that's not normal...
Karen.

Thanks for this, I was directed here from Diaper Swappers. I have actually had to throw out a couple of my MEOS, because they were so full of holes they were actually useless.
15 one-size bleached cotton diapers Had them a little over a year (large stash though, so they haven't been used too heavily). They probably get washed once a week on average. I wash in Charlie's soap. Wash routine: Cold rinse, hot wash, cold rinse. Machine dry on high usually; sometimes I hang them (but rarely, to be honest). Soft water. Girl. Dry pail. I kept the diapers in large plastic tubs before, when they were still too big. Now they are in bins and exposed to the air. |

Sorry I'm so late in responding. I just noticed a balding spot in one of my new bamboo diapers. In addtion many of them are showing more lint in the corners than the cotton Sandys that I purchased used. Thanks for all of your hard work.
12 Large bamboo sandys purchased new in July of 2008 around 8 used large cotton sandys I usually wash every 3 days, sometimes 4. I rinse once in cold, usually with 2 TBSP Borax. Then I wash (usually in warm) with the washer more than half full of water with Charlies Soap. I rinse (usually in cold) 2-3 times, and I almost always add 1/2 c. vinegar. I usually dry them on a rack (in the winter) on the line in the summer. I touch them up in the dryer about half them time, and I occasionally dry them all the way in the dryer. It is set on medium heat. Girl Utah - hard water I have used bleach on them twice to get rid of fungus infections, but I made sure to dilute the bleach, not pour it directly on the diapers. I may have used Oxi-Clean once. I have a dry pail with a PUL liner. I clean it with a dilute bleach solution on occasion and rinse it out. I keep the diapers on a shelf on the changing table in my bathroom. I use Comet to clean my toilet. I use a diaper sprayer on poo diapers. My daughter has a problem with rashes, so I use Desitin with a fleece liner.

What kind of dipe? one size How long have you had it? 4 years Your stash #s? about 60 diapers Frequency of wash? initially, every other day. Now, twice a week, or every 4 days Setting on washer you use, water temp & level? Hot rinse, hot wash, usually 2 cycles in a HE washer Do you hang or machine dry? Setting on dryer if so? i've done both, but usually machine. Setting normal Boy or girl(I'm just reaching....)? both-- twin boys for first 3 years, added a girl Where you live(for hard or soft water, or additives to tap water)? city water, unsure of additives besides the obligatory floride Wash routine, soaps, cleaners, rinses, stain treatments? No bleach. tiny bit of all free and clear. (tiny = about 1-2 tablespoons) Vinegar rinse. no other treatments. What kind of pail do you use? dry, 5 gallon bucket Dry or wet? dry Where do you keep the dipes? folded in a diaper stacker, or in a large plastic container ANYTHING else I've forgotten that could help. My bald spots happened gradually over time, so I assume that it's part of the aging process. I've put 3 kids through one set (granted, 60) diapers. Or, i've wondered if it's a urine burn as I've been able to streach my laundering days with my singleton to every 4 days.

| Yep, I think you're an example of how long people expect ME diapers to last! |
