  New to ME (mammato3)

Hi mammas! I am new to ME (have not tried then yet)but not new to CD. My DD is soon going to be out of her size small pockets and AIO. I just ordered the introductory pack from ME as I heard alot of great things. I am starting to get a little worried about the number of people finding "bald" spots on their CD. Has this happened to anyone that has used the OS type like the one that comes in the intro pack or has it been mostly bamboo? TIA

Hi there and welcome!
Although there have been several people posting recently trying to figure out why they have some bald spots on their diapers, this is a very, very, very small number.  I do not want to discount their experiences, but I think we are talking about five or six people.  One person discovered that a previous owner had used thick bleach on the diapers.  One thinks that maybe the bleach in the toilet bowl did it.  And it sounds like there are a couple of other who just don't know.  BUT! if you think about how many many many diapers are out there in heavy and regular use, this represents a miniscule percent.  Personally, I have had cotton OS and Sandys in regular use for over 4 years now with no bald spots anywhere.  Not only no bald spots, but they all look pretty fantastic still.  The OS especially haven't even had few months off that the L Sandys did, and they just keep going.  Yesterday I found a tiny thread that I think might be coming loose on one piece of serging.  After four years, I have to say that that's the first real sign of wear I've seen--and I'm still not sure it's not just left over from where the tag used to be.  I don't think we're going for a third child, but I would be absolutely confident in these lasting through another child and probably well beyond that.  I do line-dry, which I have to believe extends the life of any fabric, but still, they truly are tough diapers.

I bought my os and sandy diapers 10 years ago, and not until the third kid (actually 4th kid, because my girlfriend used them for one of her kids) did they start to thin, the stitching and the snaps are as good as new, and the thinning is in places that dont effect the function of the diaper, plus they are extra soft because of the thinning (maybe a little bumpy inside the insert in some diapers) but the waering on the diapers are a bit nostalgic because these are the same diapers my first baby wore and so many kids and so they have a story, and I just love them for it. anyway, it took over 5 years for the wear to show.
forgot to mention-these diapers are unbleached or natural colored.

Yeah, don't be worried. ME is known for making great stuff. And hopfully this current issue is just a bump in the road. I am one of those unlucky few, BUT I still would buy ME and still buy bamboo. And I don't regret it one bit. And cotton has been around way longer with a proven track record. So if you buy cotton, don't even sweat it.

Yeah, I wouldn't be worried either. The cotton diapers (which is the type in the intro package on the website, you have to call for any other fabric) have been around for over 20 years with no problems.

Thanks for the encouragement. I received my package in the mail today so I washed it and put it on DD before she went to bed. The cover (AF) is huge. I got medium for my 13lb 3 month old because the weight said 10-20 lbs. There was a gap around her legs and it's so baggy. I know the small size goes up to 12 lbs...but does it fit bigger? If I get more OS should I get the small cover? TIA

I don't think I'd bother with the smalls at this point. She'll grow into the mediums soon enough and really some gaps isn't usually a huge deal. So long as the diaper is covered, that's usually all that matters. Bagginess is also pretty normal, even when everything is snug at the legs/waist. The design of the cover is such that it lets a lot of air circulate (hence the name) so it's natural that it bags out somewhat. Most of that air is pushed out when you put clothing on.

There is some overlapping on the sizes and many find they can go directly from smalls to M/L as there isn't a huge difference between the two.

Karen.
