After almost giving up on cloth diapers, I think I've discovered why my daughter was getting this aweful rashes around her thighs. They would blister and bleed, and were just plain scary looking. I tried barrier creams, yeast creams, and stripping the diapers but nothing helped. Finally, I noticed that if I put a booster in her diaper and made sure it was changed before the binding was wet, the rash didn't appear. Now it seems obvious to me, but the wet binding just triggered some kind of reaction. The rest of the dipaer doesn't; I'm not sure what the difference in materials is between the diaper and the binding. It's not even when she is walking, it even came when she was sleeping. I've been having to use disposables at night because I'm not waking her up to change her. Since I've realized this, we've been 2 weeks rash free! Anyway, I remeber others saying they had a similar problem, so hopefully this helps! |

| Congrats on getting your problem solved! The binding on the covers is (I think, someone correct me if I'm wrong) polyester, while the diapers themselves have only cotton touching baby's skin (some poly in there, but woven in such a way that it doesn't touch). It's possible that if your daughter is a bit sensitive to polyester (or synthetics in general perhaps) that when it's wet it's just a bad situation for her skin. If you'd like to go back to cloth for night, what about trying a wool cover? I know they can be pricey, but if you knit you can make one, or there are several mommas on this forum who've made covers out of old wool sweaters by cutting and sewing. |

Or again as an idea for nighttime if you want to go back to cloth... What about somehow covering the binding? Like with a stay-dry liner? It's polyester of course but if the problem lies somehow with feeling wet then the stay-dry properties might help. Or maybe just a strip of cotton of some sort? Like an old receiving blanket or really thin towel?
Just some general thoughts, glad you at least got the rashes under control!

| my kids never had this problem, they are chubby but averagely fat, but..my sister's daughter had this problem big and she has very fat thighs, disposibles would also give her an even worse chaffing problem, the baby started wearing 2t at 11 mos old! I think my sis said at 12 mos, she's 27lbs! anyway, putting boys boxers helped her. and wearing pants, but perhaps what you did would have worked, so, but I don't know what a booster is? (btw, My dd is highly allergic to wool, I had aristocats for first baby, that I loved and sadly had to give away because of her allergies lots of people find wool in general itchy, I'm one such person, even though aristocrat didn't bother me, plus imo they smell like an animal when wet, however they are so cute and breathable, polyester fleece doesnt bother anyone in my family) |
