  Opinions on ME AIO (Susanne0617)

I have been following the posts on the forum and notice that peopel rarely talk about the ME AIO's and they are rarely for sale.  I have been trying out one AIO for a couple of months now and finally had the guts to try over night.  I was so impressed, not a hint of moisture on my DD's sleeper.  I would love to hear what people think about the AIO's and why not use it as the primary dip.
Thanks

I think the primary reason most people don't use it as a primary at-home diaper is because of the cost. Second would be that an AIO would likely not last as long as a seperate diaper & cover. Part of the reason is that usually most people use covers multiple times before washing, but with an AIO the cover part gets washed with every use. It's also more likely to end up in hot water for the wash, while many (most???) wash their covers in cold or warm.

I think also it's that AIOs tend to *sometimes* be slightly more prone to leaks. Now, that's not to say that they leak a lot, especially the ME ones. But the fact that there's only one 'layer' to pass through means that poopy blowouts might happen more often and wicking (say due to clothing creeping into diaper) probably occurs a little more easily. Obviously this would vary from person to person a lot so if it works for you then that's what matters.

Perhaps also the fact that there's less variety in materials and colors also plays a role. The ME AIO is only available in white with cotton interior. Doubt that's a huge factor but important for some people...

But there have been threads of people who use only AIOs and love it. It's easier for some (especially like dads, grandparents and other caregivers) because it's a little more like a disposable and there's only one piece to 'mess with'. Totally individual choice when you get right down to it...

Karen.

I prefer my kids to be coverless unless out publically, or someone other than me will hold baby or t protect something from needing to be washed.  but overall the diaper hold enough wetness that nothing else needs to be protected, I also like my kids to have diaper removed as soon as wet, and having no cover makes that easier to see, plus I do early potty training and so in most cases I just want to use diaper as a training pants

Agreed, the AIO's are expensive compared to OS, but a very nice luxury when out and about. Can't live without mine!!!

I use AIO's exclusively and LOVE them!!  The time saved and ease of washing/changing is definitely worth the extra $$.  Up until last week, I had TWO in cloth diapers and I don't know how I would have survived all the washing and changing if not for my AIO's!!

Oh, and I use AIO's on my little ones at night time too.  You just have to be sure you have good inserts to prevent leaks.

imamom4sure---- i would really like to not have to use the covers so everything can breathe a little better. I have two friends who don't use covers when at home either but whenever i do this the diaper is soaked on the underside too?? Is it because my diapers are too new still? not even a month old yet.

That's probably a factor, the newness. Your child's age might be another. And some kids process intake/outflow differently too. I have 4 daycare kids all boys, all between 1-2. They eat & drink vertually the same things here during the day. One boy needs changed every hour because he is so wet, and poops 3 times a day! But one of the other boys can be dry for hours at a time and poops once every 3 days.
Oddly enough, due to an ulcerated penis, my 14 month old has went coverless this whole last week. Here and out. I do have 1 pair of woolies fortunately for outings. I've been checking him every 10 minutes because the dr said he absolutely needs to stay dry to heal. He's gone through all 25 dipes that I own each and every day. His pants have stayed dry, but it's been a challenge. So going coverless with a heavy wetter(or a frequent wetter, there is a difference!) can be a challenge.
