| Now that I've been CDing for close to a year, I just have to laugh at how squeemish some people can be. Two of my non-CD friends told me about how they "threw away" dirty panties rather than have to wash them out after a poop accident when PTing their LOs. The justification was that the panties cost little more than a few sposie, so the trash was easier and "totally worth it." At the time I didn't have any children of my own, and the logic seemed reasonable. Thinking about it now.... well, let's just say I am very happy with cloth and comfortable with the associated clean-up. |

| I had a friend who she and her dh thought it was unsanitary and totally gross thing to do to a washing machine. They used to live in an apartment where the washer smelled like fecal matter. they assumed it was because folks using cloth diapers (I think something was wrong with plumbing probably a back up somewhere causing waste to end up in washer, I did have a house that the washing machine water ended up in the bath tub so I believe it is possible for a toilet to end up in the washer. Oh Well, I don't like the chemicals in disposible, and I hate the smell of a wet disposible diaper. |

I think it's a continuation of the process that starts with becoming a mom in the first place. When you become a mom, you inevitably have to let go of a lot of squeemishness you may have had before. You have to change diapers regardless of cloth or disposable, you have to clean-up vomit, spit-up, runny noses etc etc... I even remember seeing a piece of tv about how women in their childbearing years are the least squeemish even if they don't have children, it's a biological thing apparently. Cding moms just keep going down that road...
It's truly amazing how some people's yuck tolerance is so low. I remember reading once about a mom that 'tried' cloth diapering. Baby pooped in the very first diaper, mom was so grossed out that she actually threw the diaper out!! I remember once on a parenting forum some moms talking about how if/when their child had poopy blowouts that they would actually throw away the whole soiled outfit!! I still can't believe someone would be that wasteful!

If they could only see the germs.......
I only get a little grossed out if it gets on me. LOL. |

When I was in the hospital after DS#2 was born, the mom next to me insisted that the midwife throw out a baby outfit that got meconium on it. Okay, meconium is not nice stuff, but still. It was her first baby, and I thought, oh boy, wait till she sees what else that baby is going to get all over clothes . . .
I agree, poop on the hands is subideal. But that's what soap is for, right? :-) |

| "Subideal," I love it! The perfect phrase! |

That's so funny! It reminds me of my DS's birth. There was a slight chance that he could inherit a bowel malformation my DH was born with, and we knew that the first sign of it would be an inability to pass meconium. But a few minutes after his birth, he pooped all over me! The nurse was all apologetic, saying she should have put a diaper on him faster, whereas my DH and I were, like, "Wow! Did you see that? He pooped! That's wonderful, yeah!". The nurse seemed to find us a bit strange until we explained that to us, poop only meant that our boy was healthy!
And after all, I had just given birth and I hadn't had a chance to have a shower yet, so what's a little more grossness at that point anyway! |

The first time DH rinsed out a poopy diaper, it splashed him and he was almost sick to his stomach. He seriously took a shower after! lol Now he's used to it, but I think he has a new-found respect for me! |

| Funny thing is all you have to do is throw it in the washer instead of the garbage. |
