I currently have collected the following diapers for myself, and I was wondering if these will be sufficient. We are expecting our first. Do you think this will be okay for this? I am not planning on buying large sandies unless we really need them, as I am hoping the 24 OS will suffice.
12 xsmall sandies 12 small sandies 12 MEOS
12 xsmall other brand (not sure how they will work, I got these for free) 12 OS other brand (not sure how they will work, I got these for free) They look to be in good condition, but you never know
4 covers of each xsmall, small, medium, large
How many more would we need if we had 2 in diapers?? We are hoping to have more children pretty close together, so likely two in diapers at a time.
Thanks! |

As I see it, you have 36 diapers that you know will be great, and 24 further diapers that will probably be just fine. That's more than bountiful! You should have more than enough and time for line-drying if you choose, since at this point you will be limited more by how many your machine can handle than by anything else. For two in diapers, you usually only need 1/2 again as many diapers. In your situation, I would think that your stash would likely oover two children, since by the time you have #2, #1 would be out of the S Sandys and into just the OS. Assuming your other brand OS work just fine, that's 24 OS, a fine stash. That still leaves 36 diapers for the newborn, and of course you can use the OS on the newborn as well. 4 covers in each size is a great place to start. I wouldn't add more in the smaller sizes, since you have 8 covers (xs and s) you can use at birth (though of course the xs can be used only with xs diapers). Also, baby pee isn't very strong, so I found that just rinsing a cover under the tap was enough and I only put them through the machine every couple of weeks. (This doesn't work as well when you reach toddler-land, since their pee tends to be stronger and the covers get stinkier, so I like to have more in L, since then I don't have to stay as on top of the wash!).

I agree with the PP: if your 24 OS work fine, you'll have plenty. If they don't, 12 OS may be a bit tight when you baby is out of the S Sandy's, you may have to wash every day depending on how often you change him. At 18 months, I use about 7 diapers a day and like to wash every other day, but then if by that time you have another one, you'll have to wash every day anyway.
Good luck! |
