| so I have been looking at cloth diapers for months, not sure what would be best.Cotton, bamboo, hemp AIO? Also wondering how the one size works verses regular? I was kinda hoping I could use them on both my boys. One is 3 about 32lbs, only needing it at night other is 1 maybe 20lbs. Would it be better to get the bed wetter for my 3yr old? Since I have been using disposables for so long have two other children 7 & 5 want something close to them, if that can happen. Two brands I have been looking at are ME & bumGenius bamboo fitted. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks |

I don't have all the answers for you, but hate to see posts go un-answered, esp. for those just investigating the wonderful world of cloth! My personal stash is mostly one-size (unbleached cotton and one bamboo) and a few Sandys (UB cotton) for night use, with Airflow covers. If you are looking for a diaper you can use on different children, the one-size (OS) can be a great choice, and it's usually what I would recommend (loved having it when #1 was 30ish lbs and #2 was 7lbs!). In your situation, however, your older boy is reaching the limits of the OS, and given that it's for night, you'd want to have at least one liner in there, maybe more. I used the OS until 34 lbs with my DS#1, so it certainly may fit him okay. If you like the idea of the OS, you could get the trial package with a L cover and see how it fits. It might be fine, and then you would have the simplest set up, esp if there's any possibility of more children. My suggestion for him might actually be the L Sandys. It has the same upper weight rangs (35 lbs) as the OS, but most of us find that it is cut a bit more generously, and I feel that it would better accomodate one or more extra liners for nighttime use. The benefit of using that instead of something like the bedwetter is that is it something you could also use on your #2, if you are lucky enough that #1 stops needing something at night (or if you feel like you need something else). Right now the only advantage to the bedwetter pants that I can think of is that it is cover and diaper in one. That does add to dry-time, though. Personally, I would probably order both an OS and a L Sandys (get the trial package and add a L Sandys; if you call maybe they'll let you do it without increased postage or something; who knows, can't hurt to ask). Given your boys' weights, either diaper could work for them, and it comes down to what you like. The OS is a bit trimmer than the L Sandys, but the L Sandys absorbs a few more ounces, typically not important during the day, but possibly helpful at night if you have a heavier wetter. Re. wanting to be close to disposables: ME diapers are mostly a diaper-cover system, so there's another step. You do learn this quickly, and it becomes second nature. Pockets (think the bGs are pockets?) have the additional step earlier in the process, when you stuff them, so they are quicker to fasten. Some people find pockets to be a bit trickier in terms of needing to be treated just so, but as I haven't used them personally I can't comment well on that. ME does make an AIO, but it is sized, and because the PUL is attached, it's slower to dry. I think that there are several advantages to having a separate diaper and cover, the biggest one being that you have two layers of elastic in there to stop leaks. Most of us find that neither layer has to be particularly tight, but they work together to keep things where they belong. Occasionally I will have nasty poops get onto the cover a bit, but never out to the clothes. You are past the days of explosive BF poo, but that's when I was blessing ME every day. In terms of which material is the right choice for you, that's hard to say, as they all have pros and cons. I haven't used hemp. Bamboo is trimmer than cotton, but some people are beginning to question its durability. I can't comment on that, but cotton has a longer track record. Bulk can be quite an adjustment when starting out with cloth, so having a slightly trimmer fit might be nice for you. That being said, you get used to a bigger bottom, and it really stops being as noticeable when baby is past the newborn stage. Unless you really, really know what you're looking for, at this point you wouldn't notice that my 26-lb DS is in cloth. Phew! Hope there's something helpful in there. I have to say that I have been very, very, very, very happy with my ME diapers.

Many people can't fit the Bum Genius on a 32lb child unless he is long and skinny. My 3 yr old is probably around there and I'm wondering how much longer we will be able to use them. The Mommy's Touch velcro easy clean (they unstuff themselves in the washer~love this) are bigger as are some of the other one size. Ask this question at www.diaperswappers.com and some people there will be sure to have some good answers for you. Crissi |

I have heard different opinions on bamboo’s fabric. I would personal go with cloth or hemp. I am going to start to use the AIO for night time or outings. Best of luck! |

Hi there,
Over the last 1.5 years, we have used many different dipes. My very first dipes were the MEOS with the liners. I quickly fell in love with the Sandies esp. for night time.
I find that the Sandies are better for heavy wetters. Both my boys are heavy wetters. My first is 2.5 and nearly 27lbs and my second is 6wks and 11lbs. I use only Sandies with my second.
We also have BG, fuzzi bunz, baby kangas and just waiting on some All in one dipes called dreameze, sposoeasy and drybees.
If you like fitted diapers, I would say the Sandies are pretty good. We have moved away from fitted diapers and love the pockets and all in one. Both my husband and mother love the pockets and all in one so we are changing our cloth diapering system over to these, simply b/c its easier for them when I'm not around. However, I still put my little guy in sandies when I get a chance or a prefold, but he just soaks right through them.
