We are expecting our second son in just a couple of weeks and I have recently purchased 2 dozen infant prefolds, 3 xsmall covers plus 3 small covers for the first few months. Is this enough to get me washing every other day or should I purchase another dozen diapers and a couple more covers? My first son was much older when I started CDing, so I have no idea what to expect with a newborn in cloth. Our budget is a bit of an issue, and I don't want to overstock on the very small sizes, but don't want to be running out of diapers either. Help!

You will be fine with what you have. That is exactly what we used for the first few months of our first daughter and the 24 diapers got us through 2 days.

You are set for #2!

I used MEOS and S Sandys from the beginning, not prefolds, but I had a total of 25 diapers and 6 covers, and I found that I could comfortably do the wash every two days, and even do some line-drying. But my DS#1 slept a lot and only pooped when feed, every three hours, so he didn't go through as many diapers as some newborns can (DS#2, for instance!). I think you should be fine with what you have.

I started CDing when my LO was 3 months old. We had 1 dozen diapers and did a load of laundry every night (ran the drier overnight). Based on that, I'd think you'll be just fine with 2 dozen for washing every other day.

I have a 5-week old son and use 2 dozen prefolds and 4 x-small thirsties covers. We do laundry every 2-3 days. So far this works great!
